Jimmy Gray returning after an ankle injury also showed some dash.
The second quarter gave our forwards a much better chance to show what they could do with the two pronged attack of Henry Coglan and Tom Rogers teaming well. Liam Hauser was putting himself in the right position to earn a couple of frees which result in goals and some frustrated Kilsyth players who seemed unaware of rules against pushing in the back. While we set up a good break some late work from Kilsyth kept them in the game with the half-time score of 6-4 (40) to 3-1 (19) being a comfortable but not insurmountable lead.
In spite of kicking against the wind in the third quarter, the U19s showed plenty of spirit with James Marshall's dash on the wing finding Coglan who goaled. When Roberts and Coglan shared the ball back and forth with handball before kicking the goal from just outside the square, we looked set to draw away. A highlight of the quarter was Ryan Grant's strong mark on the wing. It was time-on before Kilsyth scored their first goal for the quarter and it was only after a long kick after the siren that enabled them to win the term narrowly.
While we were kicking with the wind, the boys knew still it'd take plenty of work to secure the win. When Tim O'Loughlin scored a point, it put as nineteen points up, and when Tom Veitch's handpass found Harry Lacchiana we had our first goal for the quarter. Kilsyth were having trouble going forward thanks to the strong defence of Bennett and Bohanna. Even when they looked certain to goal, the excellent teamwork of Ben Peters, Anderson and Bennett managed to close them down in just outside the goal square. Another goal from Marshall, and when Callum Ternes marked and goaled, Surrey had the game in the bag.
