BRADY TILING REPORT:-
It was a gusty battle for round four in B Reserve Netball, but fortunately the rain held off for the four quarters. Welcoming Ros into her first game in the maroon and blue, she slotted into the mid court beautifully providing great assistance feeding into the ring. In a tough, physical battle, the Yarras did not back down, extending their lead consistently the whole game. Mary stood tall under the ring, taking advantage of the oppositions misses with regular rebounding. Her calm defence settled the Yarra's and earned her best on ground. South Yarra 26 defeated Mount Waverly 11.
It took a while for B Grade Netball to settle into the game in the wet and windy conditions against Heatherton. The girls had a slow build to a fantastic third quarter where they had control of the game. Unfortunately this effort was not reproduced in the final quarter and they went down by 3. Hannah Lyon was awarded best on ground for working hard in the shooting circle. Her accuracy in goals is building from week to week and giving the team a strong target in the attacking end. The game was tarnished with an injury to Tamara and the Yarras wish her a speedy recovery.
A Reserve Netballers met Heatherton White in the Div 4 Grand Final re-match from last season. It was a wet and windy affair with lots of turnovers and a few tumbles too. Heatherton had a strong start with their Goal Shooter really dominating the first quarter. In the second quarter the defensive end really started to get on top with Gemma, Jess, Jules and Katrina turning over lots of ball. Katrina did particularly well adjusting after quarter 1 and really getting on top of her opponent and eventually playing her to the bench. This effort earn Katrina our best on court this week! At times we struggled to convert down in the attacking end, which in the end was the difference between the two teams. Unfortunately the Yarras couldn't quite get it done this week but we are really proud of sticking with the strong Heatherton team in tough conditions. Final socores were South Yarra 34 to Heatherton White 38.
In the first of certainly many more cold, rainy days in Dingley, A Grade Netballers continued to show their strength in this new division. After trailing for most of the game, the Yarras took the win in a solid come back last quarter. This was due to a strong second half, having found their feet and adjusted the game plan to both the rain and opposition. A Grade welcomed debutant, Bronwen Rees, whose defensive pressure and turnovers were a great addition to the team. Maggie Riley continues to be a leader on the court, providing endless energy, determination and intercepts, then feeding with slight of hand into the goalers. This earns her the A Grade best on court. Final scores were South Yarra 32 to Bentleigh 29.
A new look Thirds side travelled down the M3 to Keysborough. With 14 regular players unavailable for selection, Dallas was remarkably able to draft more talent than GWS during the week and upwards 10 players debuted for the club. They all impressed and along with some stalwarts of the club, went about systematically dismantling a hapless Keysborough. Tim Wise, Chris Kaliviotis, James Osmond and new players Patrick and Michael collected possessions at will. It rained goals for the Yarras whilst forward entries for Keysborough were fewer than Hawks wins this season. Like a BT interview, the contest went on longer than it should have, Yarras collecting their second win, 131-2.
The Reserves were still trying to make the final twenty-two players before the first bounce and they welcomed back Sam Stevens-Hunt and Joey Ibraham whom both haven’t played reserves football since circa 2012. Joey took some great grabs in the forward line and was a valuable target. Whereas the SS tackled with strong force and attacked the footy with intense that made the opposition turn to water. N. Pane was louder than your neighbour’s dog, barking all day. He kicked four goals and four behinds whilst and had many disposals. Angeloni kicked three goals. Khoury was sublime in the forward line, creating opportunities and had more disposals than ever. Khoury and Lange kicked two goals each. Auto took many intercept marks and was a bulwark in defence. Rossi was the general down back, his accurate kicking and clean skills provided the forwards continuous supply. Scarlo was judged best a field for his dominant performance in the midfield and delivering the football into the Yarras attacking end with precision. The defence kept the Kangaroos goalless. Despite the Yarras poor skills they managed to win 15-20-110 to 0-6-6.
The Yarras came in to its round 4 clash against Moorabbin undefeated and looking to make it four wins on the trot. Merchant and Finlayson kicked two goals each. T-Mac took a brilliant hanger in the final minutes of the game. We finished the day ahead in all the stats but lost in the most important statistic of all, the scoreboard, going down by 5 points. The week after the bye the Seniors play against top of the table, Ashwood which is the perfect opportunity to bounce back.
