After a disappointing season in Division 2 of the SFNL, Clayton has dropped down to division 3, and with new coach Jason Smith at the helm, anything is possible for season 2019.
Smith, a former assistant coach under Nick Scanlon in 2015 and 2016, has stepped up into the senior coaching role for the first time in 2019.
A Clayton boy through and through, Smith played over 100 senior games in his playing days and has been involved in the club on and off for 12 to 15 years.
“I thought it would be a lot harder to push the positivity this year, but the guys are really like sponges at the moment, actually for a first-time coach it’s good that they want to learn and they want to turn things around”, Smith told GameFace.
With the club keen to take their preparations during the pre-season into their two upcoming practice matches against Drouin and Nyora Football Clubs, things couldn’t be more positive down at Clayton Reserve.
“We want to create an environment of success, you can’t really measure that success, and you don’t really want to put a ceiling on it, but I think the way we’ve been going about it this preseason already, you can see the guys are hungry”. Smith said.
“They want success, and they want to win games of footy.”
GameFace is looking forward to watching Jason Smith lead Clayton in 2019, keep an eye on them in Division Three in the SFNL in 2019.
