The Yarras had a win in the Reserves and the Netball on a very windy Saturday.
Yo-Get-It Auskick Report:
Friday Night the Cubs learnt to kick a torpedo. It was great to see them have a go and some actually were able to get it to spiral. They are very willing to learn. This Saturday, there will be an Auskick match at half time of the Thirds game.
The Netball All 4 Pets Report:
The Netballers trained very hard at Yoga XTC on Tuesday. The Yarras played top of the ladder, Highett. After previously losing to Highett by 34 goals in our last clash, the Yarras were keen to be more of a challenge. At quarter time we were up by 2 and at halftime we were up by 4. The Yarras steadily increased our lead all game, to run out winners by 10. 7th beats 1st!!! The Yarras now move into 6th place. All players were fantastic. Best on court – everyone. The Netballers look forward to the support they will receive from the Footballers this Saturday.
The Thirds Tower Hotel Report:
Hallam forfeited giving the Yarras four points, maximum percentage and a much needed rest.
The Reserves Bendigo Bank Report:
The Yarras kicked with the strong wind in the opening quarter. Dore handballed over the top of an opponent to Buckets open in the goal square for the Yarras first goal of the day. It didn’t stop there, as the Yarras kicked five straight goals in the opening quarter and left CPL with Mr Donuts. The Yarras continued their dominance in the second quarter as the Yarras scored 20 points whilst keeping CPL to just 13 points. The Yarras gained a midfielder during the second quarter as Sauce decided to wake up but then lost a dominant midfielder at the end of the second quarter. The Yarras had a 58 point lead at the final break. Buckets kicked 4 goals as he out bodied his opponent. Mangos made his opponents look stupid, he kicked two goals, including one in which he baulked to get around two opponents and kicked it 35 metres out from goal on the boundary. Strelec was far too tall for his opponent, he kicked two goals. Dore kicked two and also had a few goal assists. The Yarras had ten different goal scorers. Sharpley, Phillips, O. Smith, S. Jewell, C. Kaliviotis and W. Smith all kicked a goal. It was the first time since round 2 an opponent of the Yarras has scored 50 points. But the Yarras were dominant in a 53 point win and remain four points clear on top of the table.
The Seniors Mr Donut Report:
Slow starts have been the bane of the Senior team’s season in 2015 and the first quarter against CPL was no exception. Granted we were kicking against the strong wind, we only managed about 3 inside 50s to CPLs two dozen from which they scored 6 goals and took a 40-0 lead at quarter time.
T-Mac went down with a calf early and the depleted backline couldn’t stop the Lakers' forwards, particularly March who booted 8 and was happy as Larry to not see the Yarras' #45 out on the park. We still managed to fight back with thanks to Eamon being particularly impressive in the ruck (again) and Rusty mopping up when playing across half back, launching numerous counter-attacks. Dimma played his best game for the Yarras with a multitude of possessions, though we are unsure of his effectiveness ratio.
Big Pipes had play of the day with a smother, gather and opposite foot snap for goal which spurred the team to a 7 goal final quarter. The damage had been done though and we went down by 26 points, finals now a HUGE ask but still mathematically possible. MJ had his best game of the season too, his only kick of 2015 being a mongrel punt goal. The hard-running Keke rounded out our best with him, Maher and Brady kicking two apiece. Higgo and Russell also slotted one each and Lavo received a gift after a 100m CPL penalty.
