The Yarras had three wins on a very cold and wet wintery day.
Yo-Get-It Auskick Report:
On Friday night the Cubs practiced tackling upstairs in the social rooms. Although tacking is not allowed in Auskick, the Cubs practiced in preparation for junior football. The Cubs practiced on tackle bags and learned to pin the arms indoors.
The Netball All 4 Pets Report:
The Netballers enjoyed another hard training session at Yoga XTC on Tuesday night followed by training on the tennis courts at the Den. South Yarra faced Clayton in this round 12 clash. The last time the Yarras played Clayton, the netballers came back in the last quarter to win by only 3 goals. It was a miserable, rainy day then, and the weather did not improve the second time around. Hail came down in the first 3 minutes of the day, making for a slippery and dangerous court. The game slowed right down, with all players being very cautious in the wet conditions. Nadine and Jess shot solidly for the first half, giving the Yarras a nice 11 goal lead at halftime. Jourdie and Eddie moved well in the mid court, carefully bringing the ball down and feeding well into the ring. Tara intercepted spectacularly at WD and provided plenty of midcourt support. Alex and the two Julias were solid in defence, mopping up many wild passes and cutting off plenty of Clayton’s attempts. After a few changes during the second half, South Yarra held on to a steady lead, which increased to 19 goals by the final whistle. Final score 39-20, a great effort in such horrible conditions. Best on court was Tara Unadkat.
The Thirds Tower Hotel Report:
The Yarras needed a win to attain third position. The Thirds kicked poorly and kept Hallam in the game until the 3rd quarter. Cameron and Milne were handy in the forward line but missed some easy shots. Hallam were assisted by some zippy under 19 players that played due to having a bye that caught the Yarras off-guard. Needles kicked his first ever goal. Donners proved that he is a goal kicker, kicking another goal. Hume slotted one through the big sticks. Cameron kicked 6 goals, taking his yearly tally to 35 goals and he is the club’s leading goal kicker and coming third in the Third grade competition. He was judged best afield. Knight played well in the ruck. Bohan was brilliant down back. Hill was once again, superb. Freeman threw his body around and provided a great target upfront. The Yarras won; 6-4-40 to 12-18-90 and now sit third.
The Reserves Bendigo Bank Report:
It was the second placed Yarras versus the first placed Endeavour Hills. A top of the table clash in which the Yarras owed the Falcons from their round 2 encounter. Dore snagged three. Noel was under every pack dishing it out and managed to kick a goal. Strelec provided a great target up forward, he kicked two in the first quarter. O. Smith was great around the ball, forcing the ball forward. He kicked two goals whilst on the run. Graham took some great marks and also kicked two goals. Evans was brilliant in his debut Reserves game, he kicked a goal from a set shot after the three-quarter time siren that brought the house down. Mahoney controlled the game from the back line, encouraging the switch of play. Jewell fed his teammates with handballs all day. The Yarras kept their opponents to just 3-7-25 to the Yarras 13-10-88. It was a great team effort and we now sit on TOP of the ladder!
The Seniors Brady Tiling Report:
The Yarras were sitting seventh and played the sixth placed Endeavour Hills. Villella kicked two goals. Stiles took some great overhead marks and managed to kick a goal. Braybrook was brilliant around the ground and kicked a goal. J. Smith took another hanger and kicked a goal. MacDonald, Russell and Rogers were brilliant down back. The golden fist of Rogers was used many times. Russell took some great defensive marks, intercepting the ball from the opposition. The Yarras were within a chance at halftime, down by only 2 points. Endeavour Hills were allowed 22 points in the third term compared to the Yarras 8 points making it difficult for the travelling Yarras to win the game. The Yarras were flat, clearly beaten in the midfield and turnovers were costly. The Yarras lost 10-16-76 to 6-5-41 kicking just two goals after halftime.
