Bean Beams Pre-Season Update
We started preseason in December and our numbers have been very encouraging all the way through. With our Senior team finishing 3rd and our Reserves playing off in a Grand Final last season we understood we had an exciting young group to work with and have been able to target certain areas of our game which will help us match it with the teams above us on the ladder. We have retained 90% of our list from last season, the only key players to have moved on are Marcus Gardner- Tigers, Grant King- (overseas) Rhys Douglas and Ethan Brock- Huonville, and Braden Livingston- Cygnet. We thank all these guys and others for their efforts at the club especially our Captains Rhys and Grant who were 2016 Premiership players, we wish them all well in their future endeavours and hope to see them all back at the club in the future.
We have had an influx of new players over the past couple of months and it will be exciting to see how our Senior side shapes up for Round 1 with plenty of competition for spots, those new players pushing for selection include- Jordan Gunther- New Norfolk, Connor Berry- Clarence, Riley Gunther- Glenorchy, Alec Willing- Lindisfarne, Jack Bromfield- Lindisfarne, Ty Williams- Ols , Will Edmunds- Longford, Lachlan Ayliffe- Tigers, Sam Volker- Rowing/ Glenorchy, George Fitzgibbon- QLD, Pat Rydon-Vic, James Cummins-Tigers .
Our established players have been setting the tone on the track with Josh Fogarty looking bigger and stronger than ever after hitting the gym hard, Michael Booth has only missed one session and looks like he is set for a big year, as is James Higginbotham who has torn up the track with Zaccy Mastrocola completing all the training and taking a lot of the conditioning work after an injury interrupted year in 2018 he will be one to watch.
The development of our younger group will be the key to our fortunes this year with players like Connor Barling, Chris Alexander, the Pointon Brothers, Blake Waight, Bradleigh Shaw, Clay Ritchie looking to take their games to a new level in only their second season of Old Scholars Football.
Whilst we are happy our numbers are high and things have gone to plan we know we have a lot of work in front of us chasing DOSA who look to have added plenty of talent to their premiership side.
We are currently looking for Individual Player Sponsors (only $120) to help the boys offset the cost of their subs, so if you can help out please contact President Matthew ' Noodles' Martin on 0447128588 or Patrick Taskunas 0419467054 for more info.

Gerry O’Dea Pre-Season Update
We kicked off our 2019 season on Monday, 14th January and have been slowly building numbers since. It’s fair to say that our 2018 team has been decimated through retirements, campus transfers, moving interstate etc, but this means a new group of players will move in and take their place. We were very fortunate to add Jason Gulliver as a specialist Skills Coach, and together with Glenorchy Premiership hero, Meg Jacobs, form a top-line coaching group. This is essential with so many new players joining the team who are footy beginners, so our training program has to cover basic skills training and introductory drills until we can get this group up to speed.
We have retained some stars however, and it has been great to have Skipper Erin Chivers back on the track to point the right way, joined by Sarah Ikin, Liv Richardson, Amy Madsen and Chloe Marquis. To go the next step this season, our improvement is going to come from promising returnees Emm van Beek, Sam Rose, Mimi Refaei and Jimmy Hutchins whilst we also welcome back power forward Ellie Kierath. Of the new players, its great to introduce April Pottinger and Anna Dance from Cygnet as well as Mils Dowling, Anna Mack, Nat Gartlan, Lucy Cooper and Sarah Donnelly. We also welcome back Gabby Watson, former Glenorchy player who played 1 game last year as a small forward. She has the potential to get under the oppositions guard. All our new players have trained with effort and enthusiasm and fitted in well to the Rainbows culture.
It would be remiss not to acknowledge Senior Coach Ben Beams, for the way he has (once again) welcomed the women to the club and assisted us to get on the oval and train. We also thank Noodles for the new footies which are essential when you have so many new players to teach and coach. We are also on the look-out for Player Sponsors, to help these destitute Uni students pay their way. 2018 was our first season in the SFLW comp, and we impressed all with our never-say-die attitude. We will once again prove tough customers to play. This season, the SFLW farewells Lauderdale to the TFLW but welcomes new clubs Huonville and Brighton. It will be another interesting season, but win, lose or draw, we will give it everything we’ve got and hopefully come out ahead.
