The Roos had trained hard for the 2 weeks prior to this match and were alomost at full strength with the exception of ruckman Manny Matata who was rested after suffering a corked thigh while playing for Team Canada in the 49th Parallel Cup last weekend.
The Roos have long memories from their 2nd round defeat at the hands of Guelph that left them 0-2 to start the season and were determined to finish the season against Guelph with a 1-1 record.
Some good movement from the center of the ground by Bryce Marshall, Adam Paterson and Mark Storey enabled Justin Rigney to take 2 early marks and post 2 goals to give the roos the quick lead. Work across the half back line from Chet Long, Logan Chambers and Ben Watts was cutting off the Gargoyles direct work into their forward and providing ball forward for their forwards to get one out. Colin Mark showed that the gardening center at Home Depot is the place to buy footy gloves as he snuck forward to kick 2 goals as the roos restricted the Guelph forwards to 1 goal to take a 17 point lead.
After a confident start, the Roos were looking to widen the gap on the scoreboard with fast paced football and pin point passing into their forwardline. OAFL leading goalkicker Travis McKenzie hadn't bothered the score board man in the 20 minutes prior so a breakout 2nd quarter was expected. It didn't take long when Chris Kranz broke out of the middle and crossed a great pass up the corridor to a leading McKenzie who went back and goaled. This type of play was rampant for the term as McKenzie goaled on 4 other occasions during the quarter with an array of marks and snap shots that left the Gargoyles backman bewildered on how to stop the flow. In all 7 goals were kicked while the back line held tight under the guidance of Jacobs, McKitterick, and Reid to set up a 44 point lead at the long break.
The Roos started the 3rd quarter full of vigor wanting stretch the lead even further and create seperation in the standing via percentage and goals to Watts, Kranz, Rigney continued the that. The Roos by 52 points.
The start of the 4th quarter bought about a resurgent Guelph looking to close the gap but some undisclipined play resulting in a goal to Adam Paterson, followed by another to Rigney and 2 more bu McKenzie ended any hope that they might have as the roos ran out easy winners by 72 points.
