The Etobicoke Kangaroos ventured home to Humber South for the first time in 2009 for the 1st game of 6 at the happy hunting ground. In front of a good size crowd for the home opener that included new gun recruit Sam Bates (who had just landed literally 30 minutes before from Australia) the boys set about flexing their hind legs to trounce the Tor. Dingo's.
In what was being built up by the local media as the match of the day (It was the only game scheduled for Friday) turned in to a real fizzer after the first 30 minutes when the boys from down Etobicoke way had a 5 goal lead at the first break.
The goals were coming thick and fast as Emile Studham and Travis McKenzie put on a powerful performance of body work and strong marking at will as the Toronto Dingos' struggled to match their size and speed. Highlite of the night was the "Screamer" by Emile Studham who stood on his Toronto Dingo's oppenent's shoulders to take "Mark of the Day", another high lite followed straight after as he missed the easy goal from 25 metres out on a slight angle. It proves that even super heroes can be mere mortals at times.
The 2nd quarter things didn't get any better for the "Australian Feral Dogs" as the Kangaroos bounded about the place continuing the West Coast run and gun style of football to bang on another 5 goals to lead by 61 points. The highlite of this quarter was from the man who can win a grand final of his own inspirational boot, Mike Langner. Our 08 GF Superhero dodged and weaved his magic around 3 pylon Dingo's then straightened up and kicked truley between the big sticks to send the huge crowd in to massive cheers and thunderous applause for their 08 Grand Final hero. It proves that super hero's can kick straight as opposed to the previous paragraph.
For the 3rd and 4th quarters coach Studham did what all good coaches do in his position, he pulled all his good Australians from the ground (except himself of course to provide on field inspiration) to give his newer Canadians players the chance to find themsleves in the thick of the action for 2 quarters.
The new structured side played really well to contain the Toronto Dingos and ended up winning the game with a slightly bigger lead than at half time. Alex McDonald, Jeff Reid, Logan Chambers and Morgan Kress were all dominate across the last line of defence and were both rewarded with game awards for their fantastic efforts.
The end result was a win by 63 points.
Next week is round 5 we take on the Central Blues in a Div 2 and Div 1 game at home at Humber South. We are 4-0 lifetime against this club and look to continue our streak. The action kicks off at 5.45pm with the Div 2 game followed by the Div 1 game at 6.45pm.
Hope to see you all around the BBQ area.
