One Up & One Down in Grand Finals U 18 Football
A very exciting thirds Grand Final in what was a tight tussle up until half time due to Centrals inability to find any space on the big St Albans ground. Much due to the pressure being placed on the Centrals side by Bannockburn but also due to the lack of teamwork by the premiership favourites. Misses up forward to Dean Cachia and Daniel Steele did not help the situation. In the 3rd quarter Bannockburn broke away and looked the better of the two sides going into the last quarter three goals up and it may have been more except for the good work of Brett Menzies and Alex Hamilton in defence and the ground work of Anthony DiCampli limiting the opportunities that were coming into the Bannockburn forward line. Centrals were staring a defeat in the face but with a few position changes a couple of stirring speech's from the coach Rick Govan but an even better one from Mrs Fonua to son Noa Werribee came out fighting in the last and kicked six unanswered goals to set up back to back premiership wins. The move of Noa Fonua to full forward where he kicked the first two goals of the last quarter and giving another two off was the catalyst to what was a great win after being held for most of the day.

A Grade Netball
Werribee Centrals looking to make it four straight premierships in four years took to the court against ladder leaders Thomson who they have beaten for the flag for the past two years. Thomson obviously looking to turn the tables this year and win their first A Grade Grand Final. It was always going to be a tight tussle and so it was right to the end but Thomson taking the most of their opportunities were able to come out victors.
Werribee Centrals 32 v. Thomson 37
Centrals A Grade took to the court pumped and more than physically fit to take on their equally pumped opposition Thomson. Centrals Nicole Stewart (WA) worked tirelessly all game to shut her opponent down but nerves were showing with a few of Centrals key players making mistakes and not capitalising on our opportunities especially around the goal ring. The score was 7 all going into the second quarter and with no positional moves made Centrals needed to step up to the challenge. Danielle Stewart (c) was instrumental throughout the game providing drive down the court but by half time Centrals were 2 goals down. Centrals defence worked hard after the break but could not stop Thomson's goaling combination as they just didn't seem to miss a shot. With all Centrals seven players pushing themselves to the limits for the four quarters it was just not Centrals day in the tricky windy conditions which Thomson seemed to handle much better than the Centrals combination. With Centrals working on over-drive in the final quarter and Danni Stewart now in the (WA) position providing some more options in Centrals attacking end Centrals tried their best to overcome their opposition with every player giving it their all right to the final whistle but in the end the girls just ran out of time.
Best: Danni Stewart(C), Nicole Stewart(WA) with Danni Stewart winning the "Best in the finals Series" Award for the GDNL A Grade
