We recently held a general meeting to discuss our club’s ‘home’ venue for 2012 & beyond – that is, should we retain Princes Park as our ‘home’ base or relocate to Koornang Park in Carnegie.
The meeting was attended by 35 members & supporters and we received a further 4 proxy votes and 12 absentees’ votes, making a total of 51 members & supporters who cast a vote on this issue. These 51 members & supporters represented a cross-section of current & past players, Life Members, administrators & supporters and I wish to thank those people who took the time & effort to be involved in this discussion.
During the meeting, the positive & negative aspects of both venues were discussed and a vote was taken on the [referred option of those present as well as the proxy votes and absentees’ votes. The result was a resounding vote of 49-2 (96%) in favour of the club relocating to Koornang Park which I think is an emphatic endorsement by our members/supporters to realign our club with the junior division of our club as well as re-engage with its immediate community.
Koornang Park is the birthplace of our club and is the ‘home’ base of the junior division of our club (which currently has approx. 200 registered players and 150 registered Auskickers). The decision to relocate the senior division of our club the Koornang Park in Carnegie will enable us to provide a seamless pathway for local footballers from Auskick to senior football as well as engage with a local community.
I also believe this decision will be a foundation stone in the rebuilding of our club.
Before the matter of relocating to Koornang Park can be ratified, we are required to gain formal agreement from the Glen Eira council (who have verbally agreed to this relocation of our club) as well as our governing body (Southern Football League). We expect to receive favourable responses from both organisations within the next week or so.
We will keep you informed of developments in this regard.
Thanks,
Darren Stait
