As the middle of the season approaches, the committee is beginning preparations for
season 2011. Leadership of the club, recruitment, and potential sponsors for next year are all on our agenda, along with the day to day running of the club.
I undertook the president’s role in season 2009 after many years as a committee member
holding roles such as secretary, committee member, social co-coordinator and player’s
representative since 1996. I announced at the last AGM that this will be my final year as president and we, the
committee, are now seeking a successor to lead our club into the future and additional
members for the committee.
As I reflect on my time on the committee and as president and identify all the things
we have achieved I also reflect on how things could be improved upon for the future.
The club is run by too few people and this can hinder the performance of the committee as
resources are spread too thinly. Unfortunately, I, as the president, have taken on far too much
and what you see me doing on home game days etc is not how a footy club should be run.
We need more committee members to lighten the load of those who do so much. When a
football club has a full and functioning committee the individual committee members have
less responsibility and a much lesser work load, resulting in an enjoyable and rewarding
opportunity to support the local football and in particular, The Bears.
If you think you can offer something to the club for the season 2010 or 2011 I am more than
happy to make some time to chat and discuss a role description. If you know of someone you
think would be a perfect fit then please let me know so that I can approach them.
I guess this letter is a chance for all members to ask themselves –
What do I want from the Caulfield Bears? How can I contribute to the success of local footy and in particular The Bears?
I look forward to seeing you all shortly at the Bear Cave. Please approach me to discuss
anything you feel we can do better, as we are all here because of that one thing in
common…….
THE MIGHTY CAULFIELD BEARS.
Kind Regards
Matthew Casey
President
