Darrell Benfield from Inverell has been elected president after Gerry Griffiths announced that he was stepping down after 11 years as league president. Mr. Benfield has congratulated Gerry Griffiths for his outstanding work and contribution to the league and the development of AFL in this region. Mr. Griffith's services will not be lost to the TAFL; he has agreed to serve on the committee and will continue his umpiring duties in 2008.
Mr. Benfield has indicated that the development of a junior's competition and the possible introduction of a reserves competition were among the league's priorities and a number of decisions will be made at the TAFL's next general meeting in January.
An AFL tradition will be introduced into the TAFL next season with the Inverell Saints and the Tamworth Roos to play under lights on ANZAC day evening. The details will be finalised at the league's next meeting in January.
The full TAFL committee is; Darrell Benfield (Inverell) President, Adrian Walsh (Armidale) Vice President, David Chapman (Gunnedah) Secretary, Graham Brown (Tamworth) Treasurer, Pete Diskon (Inverell) Promotions and Media Officer, Gerry Griffiths (Tamworth) and Wayne Campbell (Tamworth) general committee, Graham Brown Umpires co-coordinator, Darrell Benfield TAFL web-site manager and registrar.
Editor's note: I will be handling all media enquiries for the TAFL until further notice. Once the new TAFL President has his feet under the desk he will be available for interviews.
