Passed away on Friday 15 June, 2012, peacefully with his family.
Ken was 78.
The MPNFL has lost one of its longest serving members in Ken Lyons. Ken dedicated over 5 decades to football as a player, administrator and board member.
Ken was very well respected throughout the MPNFL football and netball community especially at the Edithvale-Aspendale Football Club where he spent his early years as a player, committee member and then serving as President before becoming President of the Mornington Peninsula Football League in 1976, a position Ken held until the amalgamation of the MPFL and the NFL at the end of 1986.
Ken was appointed Deputy Chairman of the newly formed Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League, a position he held until 1999 and then remained a Director of the MPNFL until he retired in 2008.
Ken remained an active member of the MPNFL Historian’s Committee until poor health prevented him attending meetings in 2012.
Ken was a Life Member of the Edithvale-Aspendale Football Club, was awarded Life Membership of the Mornington Peninsula Football League in 1978, received a VCFL Recognition of Service Medallion in 1984 and was awarded an Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for his services to football.
Also in acknowledgement of Ken’s service to local football, the “Ken Lyons Medal” is awarded annually to the Peninsula Football Netball League’s Under 18 Best & Fairest Winner.
Ken is survived by his wife June of 53 years, daughters Lea, Kelly and Nicki, 6 grandchildren and twin brother Kevin.
