About Us

AC Carina Football Club and the Brisbane Abruzzo Association (The Club) are a non for profit organisation founded in 1979 by Italo-Australian immigrants from the Abruzzo region in central Italy. The foresight and commitment of the founding members along with volunteers who manage The Club has enabled it to grow into the facility it is today.

The Club boasts a licensed restaurant, sports bar, function room and a childrens room in a private setting on six acres with ample parking and wheelchair access. Its sporting facilities include an indoor futsal arena, outdoor beach volleyball courts (under construction), outdoor futsal courts and both senior and junior football fields.

The Abruzzo Association supports charities through various fundraising events and our principle charity is the Mental Awareness Foundation (MAF). The aim of MAF is to support charities that are working directly with communities who are implementing strategies to raise awareness of depression and mental illness, while supporting the preservation of life.

AC Carina Football Club History

The AC Carina Football Club is part of the Brisbane Abruzzo Association Inc. This club was formed 28 years ago.

In 1986 AC Carina Soccer Club formed its very first football team, a senior side. Following the success of the senior team, the junior section was established for the children in the local area.

In 2006 the club completed the construction of their club house and canteen, as well as increasing their playing fields.

Since joining Brisbane Men’s Football in 2006 AC Carina Football Club has been successful in winning serveral minor premierships and becoming divisional premiers on two occassions.

In 2007 the club changed its name to AC Carina Football Club following the recommendations set by Football Federation Australia.

2007 was another successful year on the field with the Under 11 Division 2 team winning both the Minor Premiership and Grand Final. We entered our first senior team into the Football Brisbane Competition. The team finished as Runner Up in the Metro 4 League, and we also entered our first Over 35s team in the Masters Competition.

Our Senior Men’s team did the club proud in 2008 by bringing home the Men’s Metro 3 Grand Final shield.

2008 saw the installation of a scoreboard and new equipment room. A fence around the main field plus upgraded lighting for night matches is next on the agenda, meeting the requirements set by Football Brisbane.

In April 2010, we submitted a grant application to build new outdoor futsal courts, convert part of the undercover bocce area behind the Abruzzo Clubhouse into two beach volleyball courts and to upgrade our fencing and lighting for night matches as required by Football Brisbane.

In 2013 the club competed in the Capital League Three, qualifying for the finals and marginally missing out on promotion. This is the clubs highest league participation since its inception.

AC Carina Football Club is a member of Brisbane Men’s Football an affiliate of Football Queensland and Football Federation Australia. In 2014 the senior club will compete in Capital League Three.

Following the success of senior football the club established a junior football club for the children in the local area. From its humble beginnings of two junior under 7 teams in 2001, AC Carina Football Club has enjoyed an increasing membership growth of +30% year on year.
