Club founded for players over 35 years old by Geoff Lance & Peter Morris (players) and Gil Lance (trainer). Played in the Victorian Metropolitan Superules League (Division 1) as Mernda Superules. Changed home ground for larger facilities (2 grounds) at Epping Recreation Reserve, Corner High St and Park St, Epping and played as Epping Superules. Colours: White jumper with navy blue monogram. |
1998 |
To encourage a wider player base, changed name to Northern Districts Superules (The Dragons). Colours: White jumper with navy blue wings and monogram. |

Commenced a Northern Districts (40+) side combining eligible players, initially with the Greensborough and Reservoir/West Preston clubs in the inaugural year then ongoing with Greensborough. Played in the Victorian Metropolitan Superules League (40+) competition with home games being shared between respective clubs. |
1999 |
Adopted the tune of the 'Notre Dame Victory March' (ie, Sydney Swans theme song) as our club song. |

The club's (35+) 'Best & Fairest' award was renamed the 'Lance/Morris' award after founding members Geoff & Gil Lance and Peter Morris. |
2000 |
With the expansion of the league and resizing of the competition the (35+) team commenced the season in Division 2. |
2002 |
In being consistent with the governing bodies, adopted the name Masters Australian Football (MAF). Northern Districts MAFC continues to play with sides in the (35+) and (40+) competitions. |
2005 |
The (40+) combined Northern Districts/Greensborough side played with a new guernsey design incorporating both clubs colours. Colours: Navy blue and green jumper with white lightning bolt. |
2006 |
With increased player numbers Northern Districts entered a 'stand alone' (40+) side. |

The club jumper was changed to include a navy back and was used by both (35+) and (40+) teams. Colours: White front with navy blue wings, monogram and back. |

As a district side the committee adopted a policy of playing home games and training where possible at alternative local venues in the outer northern suburbs (Melbourne, Australia). |
2007 |
With the introduction of a (47+) competition in the Victorian Metropolitan Superules League, Northern Districts joined with neighbouring MAF clubs to commence a 'North Combined' team. |
2008 |
In being consistent with the governing bodies, adopted the name AFL (Australian Football League) Masters and played as Northern Districts AFL Masters FC. |

With the addition of another (40+) division, Northern Districts Masterules (40+) were aligned with their (35+) team and played in Division 2. |
2009 |
Changed training location to Mill Park Lakes Recreation Reserve, The Lakes Boulevard, Mill Park Lakes. |

With the need for a more upbeat and easily recognisable song the club adopted the tune of the ‘Oh We're From Tigerland’ (i.e. Richmond Football Club theme song) as our club song.

2011 |
(35+) team promoted to AFL Masters Vic Metro 'Over 35's Premier Division' and (40+) side to 'Premier Masters Reserve' competition. |
2012 |
Commenced a (35+ Reserve) side to play in the League's new 'Premier Reserve 35's' competition which replaces the Masterules (40+) fixture and is now played for premiership points. |

The (35+ Reserves) 'Best & Fairest' award is named after 'Colin Bartlett' in recognition of his long and devoted contribution to the club as Team Manager, Office Bearer and Life Member. |

With increased player numbers Northern Districts entered a 'stand alone' (47+) side in the AFL Masters Vic Metro 'Premier Over 47's' competition. |
2014 |
Due to insufficient players the (47+) team goes into remission during season. |
2015 |
Changed training location to Waterview Recreation Reserve, Waterview Drive, Mernda. |
2016 |
With recent restructuring to the competition the club opted to play the (35+) and (35+ Reserves) sides in the 'Northern Division' of the competition. |

With increased player numbers Northern Districts entered a (45+) side in the AFL Masters Vic Metro 'Over 45's' competition. |
2020 |
Season cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. |
2021 |
Due to insufficient players the (35+ Reserve) team goes into remission. |

With recent restructuring to the competition, the club opted to play the (35+) team in 'North Div 3' and the (45+) side in the 'North 45's' divisions of the competition. Both teams completed the home & away season undefeated however all final series were cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
