EKBA Finals Day 2018

Once gain the East Kent Basketball Association presents the EKBA Finals Day where the season culminates with four matches in what promises to be a full day of on court basketball excitement!

The event is on Saturday 28th April at Canterbury College Sports Centre.

The first game is the Women’s 3rd/4th place Grove Cup play-off between Herne Bay and Folkestone Saints. This season Herne Bay finished 2nd with an impressive 9-3 record, while Saints finished 5th in the league with a 5-7 record, that included two losses against the Bay. Folkestone have been brought in to this year’s finals day following the unexpected withdrawal from UKC, which has created a rematch of last year’s playoff game which saw the Bay take the win. So perhaps some divine intervention has blessed the Saints with the chance to pick up some silverware this time around…

The second game of the day is the Adams Plate Final which sees this seasons Men’s Champions Whitstable squaring up to local rivals Herne Bay. Whitstable have regained their league title showing true domination with their only loss courtesy of UKC in the Adrian Cook Cup Semi-Final. Herne Bay have had a mixed season finishing mid-table, but turn up at todays final following a successful 5 game winning streak. There’s no doubt that the Bay have talent among the players, but the key to victory lies in breaking down this will drilled, well oiled Team Whitstable machine!

The third match is the Women’s Grove Cup Final between Canterbury Christ Church University and Canterbury Crusaders, and again is a rematch of last year’s final. However, this year CCCU enter the game as League Champions, with Crusaders dropping to 3rd place. This match promises to be highly competitive as Crusaders will be wanting to retain the Cup from last year, while the university team will be looking to complete a League and Cup double. CCCU’s only loss this year was to Crusaders so either team could be a winner!

The final game is the Adrian Cook Cup Final which sees University of Kent line up against Christ Church University, giving feels of varsity to the day. UKC and CCCU finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, separated by only a single point. CCCU are the current cup holders but it was UKC who came out top wining both of their league meetings this season. Watch out for the fireworks, as this promises to be a great finale game!

Be sure to get yourself along to this free event to watch the best in local league men's and women's basketball!
