Rising Stars Term 4 2017
All Abilities athletes shoot for Rising Stars
Rising Stars Basketball is back and ready for action, starting Season 4 of hoops for all abilities participants.
The program has continued to develop by partnering with Basketball Northern Territory, promising the same inclusive and fun environment, backed by the Peak Sport Body for basketball in the Northern Territory.
Basketball NT Chairperson Anne Coleman said “including the Rising Stars program into the range of programs offered by BNT, is fantastic and will allow the Territory to grow its All Abilities footprint, including options to develop a NT representative team”.
Brittany Ward, Competition Manager, says “We’ve had some amazing support and participation in the program over the last 2 years; getting teams from Henbury, Palmerston Senior College, Taminmin College, Carpentaria Disability Services, Life Without Barriers, and Total Recreation”.
“We started from humble beginnings to now supporting over 100 athletes, and we’d really like to see our program continue to grow each season”.
As a result of the astounding positive impact Rising Stars has had on our community, the program was recently nominated for a Northern Territory Disabilities Service Award, specifically for providing basketball playing opportunities to a sector of our community where none previously existed.
Season 4 kicks off on Friday 20 October with games being held at Darwin Basketball Stadium, the competition will for run 8 weeks, and we expect more than 8 teams to join.
