AFL Mackay | Women's Senior Rep. Squad 2017

AFL Mackay today announced its senior Women’s representative training squad in preparation to play AFL Capricornia at Rockhampton on Saturday July 1st.

It comes on the back of the Mens squad announcement on Monday as the teams prepare for a big day of footy with both the Men’s and Women’s sides vying for bragging rights over our nearest rivals.

Bakers Creek Women’s Senior Coach, Ian Rix has been appointed as coach for the representative side.

Rix possesses a strong knowledge of the game and the ability to effectively communicate with the girls, preparing them for what should be an enticing encounter.

AFL Queensland Competition & Club Development Manager – Mackay, Paul Scullie, said the quality of female talent in the Mackay & Whitsunday region is exceptional and only getting better.

“It has been difficult enough trying to select a squad, let alone having to reduce that squad to a team of 22 in due course, which is a great position to be in for the coaching panel,” Scullie said.

“The girls had a great hit out during the recent City v Country match on ANZAC Day which was a real barometer for how passionate and talented this squad is.”

“The Rocky girls have been very dominant over the years and the word is, that it is no exception this year. We will pick the best 22 players available and from what I have seen over the first few rounds of this season I am confident enough we can put on a very good show,” Scullie added.

A member of the Brisbane Lions talent staff will be in attendance at the match as part of the talent ID process, providing players from both regions the opportunity to show off their skills.

“That alone, proves that the Brisbane Lions are aware of the array of talent within our region and will be a big driver for some of these young girls to prove themselves in front of elite company,” Scullie said.

The squad will kick off training next week, with a final team listing to be announced in late June.
