BRENDAN Hallinan from the Sunshine Football Club has taken out this years Australian Football Coaches Association Senior Coach of the Year award, which was announced at the WRFL Senior Presentation on Thursday night.
Brendan has been the Senior coach at Sunshine for three years and in that time has formulated an evolving game plan that allows the team to compete week in and week out, and has developed his team from seventh in 2016 to third in 2017 eventually being Runners Up.
“The AFCA Coach of the Year awards is a great opportunity for us as an industry to recognise the significant contribution of coaches to the development of the Game in the Western Region,” AFL Victoria Football Development Manager Nish Moses said.
“We have many fantastic coaches who work tirelessly for their club and their players, and these awards are a great opportunity to recognize this hard work.
“The AFCA Committee, which consists of a number of well respected individuals, who all have great experience in AFL Coaching thought Brendan showed some outstanding characteristics which would make him a very worthy Coach of the Year recipient, in particular in his ability to manage his younger players, get the best out of them and his ability to develop his Assistants”.
Sunshine Football Club president Xavier Hayes said Brendan has outstanding communication skills that allows him to not only get his message across to the players but to the members and supporters of the Club.
“He works tirelessly with the younger members of the Club to make sure they develop on and off the field, as well as instilling the 'Club first' culture,” he said.
Congratulations to Brendan and Sunshine on a great year.
