MORE than 160 people came together on Wednesday night to help launch the 2017 WRFL Season.
Club officials, coaches, community members and league partners and staff gathered at the Yarraville Club to celebrate another historic season of footy in Melbourne’s west.
WRFL President Meredith Angwin welcomed guests in her keynote address, previewing a big year ahead.

This year the WRFL will launch a standalone girl’s competition, with teams from across the west expected to take part in the Under-12, 15 and 18 competitions.
Western Bulldogs star player Ellie Blackburn was one of the special guests.
Blackburn, who finished second behind Adelaide superstar Erin Phillips in the AFL Women’s Best and Fairest award, spoke about her whirlwind journey over the past few months.
Blackburn spoke of her pathway to the top level and how her life had changed.
North Melbourne duo Kayne Turner and Sam Durdin were also on hand. The Kangaroos rising stars spoke about the season ahead and their journey’s to becoming an AFL footballer.
Our final guest speaker was Reach Foundation CEO Chris Naish who spoke about the work his organisation does in the community and the new partnership between Reach, the WRFL and RAMS.
The RAMS Reach Program will be launched on Saturday in conjunction with the Wyndham Suns Family Day.
The WRFL also inducted seven people as 300-Game Life Members, Noel Crump, Daryl Jeffries, Michael Gilbert, Dennis Lazaridis, Alan Parker, Adrian O'Donnell and Philip Henderson.
Aspecial presentation was also made to Parkside legend Rod O'Connor, who also became a WRFL Life Member.
Finally, premiership pennants from 2016 were also presented to last year's Senior Premiers.
The 2017 Season kicks-off this weekend with the Division 1 competition.
