While Saturday’s Division Three clash between Albanvale and North Sunshine will be a normal day at the office for most, for Cobra duo Brendan Cassar and Dean Formosa, it will be something special when the pair run out for their 300th and 400th games respectively.
However reaching the milestone club is not uncommon at Robert Bruce Reserve, with 11 other current players achieving 300 games or more.
In addition to the duo’s achievement, the day will also celebrate teammate Justin Allen’s 300th match when he reached his milestone in round 14 earlier this season.
Formosa, Cassar and Allen are looked up too by the rest of the club, and this match is an excellent opportunity to celebrate all they have done for the Cobras over the journey.
Wearing number #27 for the blue and white, Brendan Cassar is a strong and reliant player for the senior side, along with the powerhouse of Formosa who has consistently played in Albanvale senior side since 2012.
Formosa will be joining teammate John Sirianni who is the only other current senior Albanvale player to have achieved 400 matches.
In addition to this, Allen and Cassar will be joining fellow Cobras Michael Bassi, Jarryd Formosa, David Azzopardi, Michael Spatolisano, Jason Curmi and Paul Adams who have all reached 300 games for Albanvale.
Amazingly, with the exception of Bassi, all of these players are under the age of 30.
In a time where loyalty to one club is a rarity, it is evident that the leadership from these senior players is valued in high regards as both the senior and reserve sides strive to win the club’s first senior premiership.
Congratulations to all players who have achieved this milestone, especially the three players that are set to celebrate at today’s match.
Win, lose or draw, I’m sure it will be a great day for all involved and one to savour for many years to come.
