With practice / trial games proposed to kick off late October and the season to get underway from mid-November 2018. Futsal Geelong are now seeking female teams for this new futsal league that will be played at the Leisuretime Sports Precinct in Bell Post Hill.

The exciting aspect of this particular league will see it run alongside the ‘Fun Female Futsal program’ which is an innovative new program launched by City of Greater Geelong staff (with the support of the Rotary of Corio Bay) earlier this year as a great way for female players to get involved and introduced to the game. The program has been really positive overall and a way for those that have either never played futsal (or soccer) before to come experience and learn the game in a fun and welcoming environment. It’s also been a great way for players involved to increase their fitness levels and help prepare them for a transition into more structured competitions when and if they are ready to do so.

The Women’s Futsal League game times this Summer will be 6:15pm, 7:00pm, 7:45pm and 8:30pm with all games made up of 2x20 minute halves. The Uniform requirements placed on teams will be more relaxed also with the only requirement being teams must have matching tops or bibs and all players must wear shin guards. Other tops under the team’s shirt or bibs are fine, and other shorts, compression tights etc. are welcome.

Game fees are the women’s league is $57.00 per team / per game (approx. $8.20 per player per game based on 7 players per team) and the only other fees associated with the game is the Team Registration Fee of $90.00 which covers all players Football Federation Victoria’s (FFV) Futsal registration / insurance for the duration of the season.

The women’s league at Leisuretime is another great step for female football and futsal in the region following the 2018 outdoor season having 82 female only teams in Geelong. This league now not only allows females to play football / soccer all year round, it also provides another development pathway for females to continue to develop, improve and be challenged agaist others who share the same interests and passion for the game.

It will be also great to see some of the females who have been involved with the Fun Female Futsal program for the past few months form teams and move into the league. As games will be played on court one, and on court two the fun female futsal program will continue from 6pm – 7.30pm so it will be good to have two different levels of futsal available for females every Monday under the one roof while also providing a platform for players more experienced to help out and engourage those players learning the game for the first time, or those returning to play after some time away.
