The WBA is pleased to announce the appointment of Jesse Pence as its NBL1 Women’s Head Coach for 2024 and 2025. 

Jesse is well known to all at the Wolves having spent the last 2 years as the Lead Assistant Coach for our NBL1 Men’s program and in his full-time employment leading the associations coach education sessions, player and coach development programs, WABL coach mentoring, coach accreditation sessions and elite player development sessions.. 

Jesse has served a unique apprenticeship, having been a lead assistant in the NBL1 for five seasons, following significant coaching experience in AAU and High School basketball in the USA, and through working with state programs in South Australia as a High-Performance Coach.  

Away from the NBL1, Jesse has led the associations player and coach development programs, WABL coach mentoring, coach accreditation sessions and our elite player development sessions.

"We had a number of high-quality candidates in response to the advertised role, however during the interview process Jesse impressed with his vision for the program and it became apparent that Jesse’s hunger and passion for the Wolves and his alignment to the Associations development pathway made him the perfect coach to lead this new era of our women’s program. " said Wolves CEO Andrew Summerville.

“Jesse's elite preparation and strategic insights into the game were on display in his interview when he was communicating his vision for the Wolfpack Womens NBL1 Program, and having worked closely with Jesse for the last few years, I can tell you that there isn’t a sharper, more technical mind in the game."  He is passionate and driven to succeed and no one puts in more time behind the scenes than him. He cares about the players he works with and genuinely wants them to succeed and will leave no stone unturned in their development.

“We have expected for some time that we would lose Jesse as he has been approached about a number of NBL1 men’s head coaching roles around the country, so we are glad that he has chosen to stay with the Wolfpack” added Summerville.

“I am grateful to be named Head Coach at such a prominent and prestigious organization in the NBL1. I am looking forward to continuing to build a program that will be in contention for years to come. I have a sincere sense of gratitude and appreciation for those that have instilled their faith and belief in me to lead this team, namely President Ryan Hunter, CEO Andrew Summerville and the board of the Wanneroo Basketball Association. Our fans can look forward to us continuing our winning tradition, and cheering for a team that provides a vast array of role models for our Junior Domestic and WABL Players. We have a tremendous amount of talent on this team and I am looking forward to working with and developing them in the coming years. Jesse will commence in his role immediately and begin the task of building a squad for the 2024 and 2025 NBL1 seasons.
