WOLVES SIGN VAIANGINA FOR THIRD YEAR

The Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves are excited to announce the re-signing of 6’8 Forward Sioli (Joel) Vaiangina.

Joel is back for his third season with the Wolves albeit his first season being cut short due to COVID. Joel signed with the Wolves in 2020 but unfortunately had to go home on the eve of the season. He then returned in 2021 for the inaugural NBL1 season and will again be a part of the pack in 2022.

Joel had this to say about his return in 2022.

I’m really excited for the redemption of last season! There’s still a bad taste from the disappointment of missing the finals but re-signing with the Wolves means another shot at the title. We’ve added key pieces to the group, so I’m excited to see how we go this year. My development is going great and being with the Wolves I’ve got everything I need to get to the next level.”

New NBL1 Men’s Head Coach David Morrell had this to say about signing Joel,

Joel is a much-needed signing for us. He fills a roster need, and he isn’t a type of player that is easy to find. Defensively he is versatile – he can move his feet on the perimeter, and he can rim protect with his length and athleticism. Offensively he’s a vertical stretch guy in pick and roll and as a cutter that can really put pressure on the interior of a defence. Joel is still young, he had a good year last year, but he has a chance to hopefully be better this year as he continues to develop.

Joel is a player that Andrew was able to recruit and bring out for the 2020 season. He came back for 2021, and it’s exciting to have some continuity with him and have him back for another year where we can keep working with him and building him up to help him become the player he can be. Joel is a guy that we are thrilled to keep working with in the gym and on-court because there are few guys around that have his sort of potential. But he’s not just talented. He’s a high character guy that puts the team first and is a great contributor to the culture as well. Re-signing Joel is an obvious decision for us, and we are thrilled to have him back for 2022.”
