 Another MVP Signs with Wolves

The Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves are excited to announce the signing of reigning NBL1 Central men’s league MVP CJ Turnage for the 2022 season.

CJ a 6’6 swingman, played NCAA basketball for Saginaw Valley State University where he averaged 15.7ppg and 6.3rpg in his senior season. After graduating from college CJ moved to Australia to pursue his professional basketball career.

CJ spent the last 4 years in Adelaide where he played for the Southern Tigers in the Premier League in 2018-2019 and the Norwood Flames in 2020 and 2021. In 2019 with the Tigers CJ was crowned the league MVP following up from his 2018 Grand Final MVP in the Championship winning team. At the Flames in 2021 he led his team to the NBL1 Central Grand Final and collected the league MVP along with All-Star 5 honours.

In 2021 CJ averaged 24.3ppg and 7.2 rebounds per game on 49% shooting.  He was second in the league in scoring behind current NBL player Jack McVeigh. CJ had 6 games above 30 points including a season high of 37 points against Forestville.

New NBL1 Men’s Head Coach David Morrell had this to say about signing CJ.

I am extremely excited to be able to sign CJ. He fits exactly what we were looking for – a versatile scorer that makes his teammates better with his playmaking. He’s a big, strong, agile 6’6 player that can’t be defined by classic position labels and gives us all sorts of options as coaches. He’s a point guard, an inside presence, and a wing all in one. He helps his team score, and consistently helps his team win. I can’t wait to get him in green. I think Wolves fans are really going to love this guy.”

When asked about signing with the Wolves CJ said.

“I’m excited for my opportunity with Joondalup! The club has a professional vibe, and I can tell the fans really get around their team because of their success. The facilities and resources are amazing! I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and the Wolfpack family. I am very thankful for the opportunity!”

CJ has arrived in Joondalup, please make him feel welcome.
