MVP Signs with Wolves

The Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves are excited to announce the signing of reigning NBL1 Central Women’s league and grand final MVP Teige Morrell for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Teige played NCAA Division One basketball for the University of Nevada Wolfpack where she averaged 14.2ppg and 8.6rpg in her senior season. After graduating from college, Teige led Team USA to gold at the FISU American games in Brazil. Teige then moved to Australia and joined the Woodville Warriors in the South Australian Premier League.

Teige was quickly recognized as a WNBL standard player, signing a training contract with the Adelaide Lightning before signing as a contracted import for the Bendigo Spirit in 2020. During this time Teige also played for the Southern Tigers in what is now the NBL1 Central. As a Tiger in 2021 she led her team to be crowned the NBL1 Central Champions and collected the league MVP and Grand Final MVP along with All-Star 5 honours.

In 2021 Teige averaged 23.2ppg and 12.6 rebounds per game as well as shooting the ball at an impressive 61% from the field. Her season highlight includes a massive 37 points and 22 rebounds against Woodville and a 38-point, 15 rebound haul against Forestville. She also amassed a whopping 26 rebounds and 21 points against Eastern Mavericks.

Teige spoke to the Joondalup Wolves on her thoughts about signing for the next two seasons.

I am so excited to join the Wolves. The club is extremely professional, with beautiful facilities and a great track record of success. I will seize the opportunity given, work hard, and look forward to our team playing some great basketball that Wolves fans will love to be a part of. I can't wait to get to know everyone in the Wolfpack family and share the excitement together!”

Joondalup Wolves Women’s CEO Andrew Summerville shared his thoughts on Teige signing with the Wolves.

We are really excited to have Teige join the Wolfpack for the next two seasons. When we found out we were losing Kayla Steindl to Tasmania, we knew it was important to find the best available player we could to fill the gap. It is impossible to replace a player like Kayla, but we believe Teige will be exactly what we need. We watched her closely over the NBL1 season and knew she was the type of player we could build future success around. Her performances were dominant and what she did in the grand final was amazing. We fell agonisingly short this year losing the grand final but we hope adding a player the likes of Teige to what is already a very strong squad will help us go one step further next year”.

Teige is the first signed for the Wolves Women’s 2022 roster.
