WE ARE ON THE HUNT IN NBL1

It is with great excitement that the City of Joondalup Chambers Franklyn Wolves wish to announce it will participate in a National competition under the National Basketball League (NBL) banner known as the NBL1. The Wolves will play in the NBL1 West conference which is set to replace the SBL in 2021.

Basketball WA and the SBL Commission has announced in conjunction with the leagues member associations it has reached an agreement with the NBL for the league to be re-branded and commercially operated as NBL1 West. This is a massive step forward for the league which will see the Wolves compete on a National stage and provide a clear pathway for our athletes through to the NBL and WNBL. NBL1 West will join NBL1 South (Victoria and Tasmania), NBL1 North (Queensland) and NBL1 Central (South Australia) in an expanded conference based competition in 2021.

Other competing NBL1 West teams will be Cockburn Cougars, East Perth Eagles, Geraldton Buccaneers, Goldfields Giants, Kalamunda Eastern Suns, Lakeside Lightning, Mandurah Magic, Perry Lakes Hawks, Perth Redbacks, Rockingham Flames, South West Slammers, Warwick Senators and Willetton Tigers.

Basketball Western Australia CEO Rob Clement said: “Basketball Western Australia has worked closely with our 14 clubs to make the decision to join the NBL1. We are very excited to be part of the NBL1 competition in 2021 and showcasing the strength of basketball in Western Australia.”

The NBL brand will bring increased awareness and recognition to our league which will add to the professionalism of our product. The power and reach of the NBL’s marketing team will be behind the promotion and marketing of the league which will provide added value and exposure to our players and the Wolves brand but more importantly our commercial partners.

The NBL1 West conference will be run similarly to the SBL competition of previous years however in a new and exciting addition the winner of the West conference will get to travel to Victoria to compete for the NBL1 National Championship.

CEO Andrew Summerville said, “This is huge news for the Wolfpack senior programs. We started working with the NBL this time last year, so it has been a long time in the making, however we are really excited about joining the new league and partnering with the NBL.”

“I would like to thank Basketball WA CEO Rob Clement and his staff along with the NBL for all the work they have done to facilitate this partnership and put our league on the National map. I can’t wait for our players, fans and partners to experience all the benefits that come from working with the NBL.” added Summerville.

The move to NBL1 comes with many improvements and additions to the league. All games will be live streamed with commentators using professional video and audio equipment. Each club will receive a dedicated NBL1 team website, highlight packages and digital asset support from the NBL marketing team as well as an increased game day experience.

NBL Chief Operating Officer Andy Crook said: “This is an exciting day for Australian basketball and for basketball in Western Australia with the announcement of NBL1 West. NBL1 is Australia’s premier winter basketball league and we are delighted to welcome Western Australia into the family.”

“NBL1 will open up stronger pathways for Western Australian players to progress to the NBL, WNBL, US college and overseas leagues. It will bring bigger audiences to basketball in Western Australia and take NBL1 to a new level.” added Crook.

The Wolves will now commence our preparations for the inaugural 2021 NBL1 season and Wolfpack fans can expect some exciting player announcements and membership offers in the coming months.

Next season promises to be the biggest season yet so get behind the Wolves in the NBL1 in 2021.
