Member Engagement Coordinator, Matt Rushmere moves on

The WBA wishes to announce that Member Engagement Coordinator Matt Rushmere is moving on from his position to pursue his dream of a career in the Police force. Matt has recently made it through the final stages of the application process and is expected to start his formal training at the academy in the near future.

Matt was a member of the board for 9years before stepping down to accept full time employment with the club in the then brand-new position of Member Engagement Coordinator. During his board and employment tenure Matt started and successfully grew our social media following to the largest of all basketball associations in the State and was responsible for the design and growth of our brand through our popular merchandise and SBL game night experience. Matt was influential in the signing and retention of our commercial partners and servicing our SBL members.

“Although it is disappointing to lose Matt, we are happy that he is progressing with his dream of becoming a police officer. Matt has done a stellar job with our social media for 10 years and has a real talent when it comes to member engagement and our digital assets. Matt is a Wolves person through and through, he loves the club and actually does bleed green.” Said CEO Andrew Summerville.

Although stepping aside from his full-time role with the club, Matt is certainly not stepping away from the club all together. Matt will still be volunteering on SBL game nights, running the merchandise stand, liaising with SBL members and Commercial Partners, managing a WABL team and will still be the Wolves number 1 fan.

“I don’t think Matt could keep himself away from the club even if he tried, he loves the place” added Summerville.

Matt had this to say about his time at the club; “I attended my first Wolves game in 1994 and don’t think I’ve missed many since 2008. I became Trevor Pugh’s team Manager for the 2009 U19s’s State Champs which then lead into the 2010 WABL season that ended up being a championship season for the U20’s. It was so much fun, and it feels like I haven’t left the stadium since.

10 years later I’m back as team manager for the U12s WABL team and I’m so proud to see my eldest son in the green Wolves singlet.

I’ve meet so many great people being involved with this amazing club over the last 12 years and it was a privilege to be employed by the WBA and I thank the board, former CEO Cameron Britt and current CEO Andrew Summerville for the opportunity and the trust they showed in me and my ideas to help promote and grow the Wolfpack brand. I look forward to being back volunteering and still being part of the Wolfpack for many years to come.”

Matt will finish his full-time duties in the coming weeks then spend time renovating his house and doing some casual work for the WBA until he gets that all exciting call up to start at the academy.

The search for Matt’s replacement will begin immediately.
