Further to the announced restrictions in regards to ALL BASKETBALL ACTIVITIES in WA to cease immediately.  This directive is to remain in place indefinitely and any determination whether to resume activities or extend the restrictions further will be advised to all basketball stakeholders at a point in the future.

What does this mean for WBA members:

Who determined the ban?

Answer: Basketball WA (in conjunction with Basketball Australia and state/federal governments) has handed down this decision. As an affiliated body, the Wanneroo Basketball Association is required to adhere to this direction.

Are other Associations following this directive?

Answer: Yes.Basketball WA (in conjunction with Basketball Australia) has handed down this decision. All affiliated associations are required to adhere to this direction.

When will the restriction end?

Answer: BWA has recently advised that the restriction on all basketball activities will now apply up until 29th May 2020. 

Is the WBA office open?

Answer: No, as per the Government guidelines, both HBF Arena and the WBA office will be closed during this period. However, if members should have any urgent queries, WBA staff will continue to monitor the Wolves email address at welcome@wolves.asn.au and our social media platforms and respond where possible and appropriate to do so.

What if I have a question for my Junior Domestic Club

Answer: Questions relating to Junior Domestic Club matters, should be directed to the relevant club’s email contact. However, please understand that Junior Domestic Club representatives are volunteers and as such may not be able to respond to questions immediately and additionally, they will not have any further information regarding basketball activities than have been provided here.

What happens to Summer 2019/2020 finals?

Answer: No finals will be played this season.

 Senior:

The remainder of season declared a washout

No finals or season winner declared

No refunds for Jan 2020 season, however, given the shorter number of games in the Jan 2020 season, and as such a greater proportion of the season was lost,– a 25% discount off the Winter 2020 season registration fees, will be offered to all Senior teams that participated in the Jan 2020 season.

Junior:

The remainder of season declared a washout.

No finals will be able to be played. The team finishing on top of the later at the point of the season being cancelled will be declared the winner. Champions awards will be presented. No R/Up medals will be awarded.

U8 and U10 competitions to receive participation trophies.

When can we collect our medals / participation trophies?

Answer: At this stage, all medals and trophies will be held by the WBA until there is a lifting of the government restrictions and HBF Arena is again open to the public. Once this occurs, we will advise all clubs and determine the best action to distribute these accordingly.

Will the Winter 2020 Junior  / Senior Domestic Season go ahead?

Answer: The WBA is preparing for the Winter 2020 season to proceed, but will be required to wait until formal advice from BWA to confirm. Decisions relating to any registration fees will be made once BWA has made a decision regarding the Winter 2020 season.

Will the 2020 WABL Season go ahead?

Answer: BWA and WBA are preparing for the 2020 season to proceed in some format, but will be required to wait until formal advice from BWA. Decisions relating to any WABL fees will be made once BWA has made a decision regarding the 2020 season.

Will the 2020 SBL Season go ahead?

Answer: With the recent announcement of the cancellation of the NBL1 season (east coast equivalent of the SBL), this outcome is looking more likely. However, the WBA awaits formal advice from BWA before any outcome can be confirmed. Decisions relating to any SBL season membership fees paid will be made once BWA has made a decision regarding the 2020 season and the WBA Board has had an opportunity to evaluate all impacts of this decision on the WBA.

Will the April School Holiday Camp go ahead?

Answer: Unfortunately no. The April School Holiday Camp will be cancelled, however, we are hopeful that the July School Holiday Camp will proceed as scheduled. Please check the WolfPack Basketball website (HERE) and our social media platforms for details a little closer to July.

Can I still purchase Wolves merchandise?

Answer: Yes. All purchases must be made online via the WolfPack Wear website (found HERE) and items will be mailed to your address if you choose the delivery option. Please note: the delivery period may be longer depending on accessibility to stock at HBF Arena and Australia Post delivery processes.

Can my team continue to train?

Answer: No. All basketball activities are to cease immediately, including all BWA/WBA sanctioned games, training and basketball related events.

Can my team hold a wind up?

Answer: No. All basketball activities are to cease immediately, including all BWA/WBA sanctioned games, training and basketball related events.

If we choose to ignore BWA suspension, what are the consequences?

Answer: Any player, coach or official that chooses to ignore BWA advice will NOT be covered by any BWA insurance coverage as any basketball activities WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED AS SANCTIONED ACTIVITIES. Should any person be injured or contract illness during a NON SANCTIONED ACTIVITY, those responsible for organising may be held liable.

Can I train on my own?

Answer: ABSOLUTELY! The WBA strongly encourages all players to continue to work on their skills and fitness individually and within the restrictions as determined by the Government. The WBA will be regularly posting individual fundamental skill workouts via our social media platforms to help players focus on important skills areas during the break.

Aussie Hoops: Can I get a refund for Term 1?

Answer: All Term 1 participants will be offered an additional week of training free of charge for term 2 (or later terms once restrictions end). This means that if term 1 participants register for term 2, they will receive 8 weeks of training in term 2 instead of 7. If they choose not to register, they are still welcome to attend the first session of term 2 at no cost. Unfortunately, no cash refunds will be possible for the missed sessions in term 1.

How can I help the club?

Answer: The WBA understands that this is a very uncertain time for all our members, not only from a basketball point of view, but for life in general and people are wanting more information about the future. We ask that all our members to continue to follow the Government’s directions to stay safe and to trust us to communicate any important information relating to our club, to our members and to basketball in general as soon as it becomes available. Your support, once these tough restrictions have been lifted, will be vital in ensuring the Wanneroo Basketball Association can continue to provide the highest quality of basketball programs, competitions and events possible.
