 WANNEROO BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO & PRESIDENT

(20 MARCH 2020)

Dear WBA Members, Community and Wolfpack family,

Firstly, thank you for your patience and understanding during these difficult and uncertain times. The health and wellbeing of our members is our number one priority and given the serious nature of a global pandemic we believe the decisions that have been made are in the best interests of everyone involved in our association. We hope you and your families are safe and well during these challenging times.

We have been forced to make some extremely difficult decisions due to the impact of the Coronavirus COVID- 19 and the relevant sanctions placed upon us by the Government and the sport’s governing bodies, Basketball Australia and Basketball Western Australia. This is something nobody could be prepared for; however, we have done our best to ensure the best possible outcome for our membership as a whole. It has been tough, frustrating and disappointing for us to not see our courts full of players, families and members playing the sport they love. We have not and will not be taking any of our decisions lightly and understand the impacts they may have on our community.

As a result of the suspension of ALL basketball activity due to COVID-19, all of our revenue streams have ceased, and we face some extremely challenging times ahead. We understand that this is also applicable to many businesses and workplaces across the country at this time, but simply put – without people playing basketball our association immediately comes to a halt.

We are currently working behind the scenes to ensure that once permitted we can return to normal basketball activity as soon as possible. Our staff are looking at engagement plans and extra programming we can launch to get our players back on the court. We are also looking at our financial sustainability models to ensure we are able to come back bigger and better from this suspension.

The support we have received from our members has been fantastic and we appreciate our members reaching out, offering assistance and checking in on our staff and community. These uncertain times have put an unprecedented strain on our members, clubs, volunteers, staff and basketball community at large. We have a responsibility to ensure the sustainability of our association and that we can provide opportunities for our members to be involved in basketball in the immediate and long-term future.

We need to remain positive, calm and supportive and we thank you for your loyalty and understanding. You are all part of the Wolfpack family.

Yours sincerely,

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
