A MESSAGE FROM WANNEROO BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
(19 MARCH 2020)

Basketball Western Australia has decided to suspend all sanctioned basketball activities, programs and events until April 27. The WBA takes the health and wellbeing of our members seriously and is governed by the decisions and advice of the state body, BWA. These uncertain times have put an unprecedented strain on our members, volunteers, staff and basketball community at large. We have a responsibility to ensure the sustainability of our association and that we can provide opportunities for our members to be involved in basketball in the immediate and foreseeable future.

We have come to our conclusions through consultation with our domestic clubs, key stakeholders, other associations and BWA. We understand that these decisions will not suit every individual but please understand that the best interests of the association as a whole is at the core of all our decision making.

Please see below an update on the current status of our competitions and programs:

DOMESTIC COMPETITIONS:

Senior:

-The remainder of the season is declared a washout - No finals or season winner will be declared.

-Given the shorter number of games in the 2020 season, and as such a greater proportion of the season was lost, a 25% discount off the Winter 2020 season registration fees will be offered to all Senior teams that participated in the Jan 2020 season.

Junior:

-The remainder of the season is declared a washout.

-No finals will be played. The team finishing on top of the ladder at the point of the season being cancelled will be declared the winner. Champions medals will be presented via each Junior Domestic Club. No Runner Up medals will be awarded.

-U8 and U10 competition participants will receive their participation trophies.

Aussie Hoops:

-The remainder of the term is cancelled.

-Term 2 – The 7-week program is planned to proceed as per usual. However, an additional week of training will be offered free of charge as a make up to all term 1 participants (i.e. term 1 participants will receive 8 weeks of training in term 2, or 1 free session if they do not re-register).

Female Fundamentals:

-An additional session to all term 1 participants will be provided in term 2, or 1 free session if they do not re-register.

Futures:

-U16/U18 participants will be offered a 2-hour Camp in July School Holidays as a make-up session.

-U12/U14 participants will receive additional sessions in May / June / Aug / Sept as “make up” sessions.

WABL

-TheWBA is preparingfor the 2020 season to proceed on the original starting date of 26th April but will be required to wait for formal advice from BWA to confirm (expected by 14th April). Decisions relating to any WABL fees will be made once BWA has made a decision regarding the 2020 season.

SBL

-The SBL Competition has currently been postponed until 29th of May at a minimum, however BWA provide an update on the format and future of the 2020 season in the coming weeks. The WBA will contact all SBL Members and Corporate Partners and provide an update once more information is available.

DUE TO HIGH DEMAND THE WBA MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO INDIVIDUAL ENQUIRIES.

Please follow our website, social media and check your email for updates as it comes to hand.
