Introducing the New Wolves

On Saturday October 14 2017, the Wanneroo Basketball Association - home of the Joondalup Wolves, launched a new stadium, a new brand, and a new identity for their very exciting future.

Below is a majority excerpt from Wolfpack CEO Cameron Britt's address to the 180+ guests and dignitaries at the Wolfpack Gala function.

The Wanneroo Basketball Association was born in 1983, to a small number of proud and nurturing parents that wanted to create a special place, a safe and supportive place, for Basketball players, coaches and referees to compete, develop, officiate… BUT most importantly, to enjoy the game.

The Association has had a long and proud history, steeped in success, heritage and enriched by the thousands of people who have called it ‘their club’ in 35 years of existence.

But of course, it is not one persons club – it is everyone’s club.

Sporting clubs mean many things to many people, but I tend to look at it quite simply.

A true sporting club, like our sporting club, is a destination.

And our strategic vision, club-wide, is to be the destination of choice for Basketball.

A destination to meet, socialise, play, improve, dream...achieve.

Since those formative days, the Association has grown -

- some faces have left
- many more have remained
- and substantially more have arrived.

The club has forged strong and enduring allegiances, in more recent times proudly taking the title the Joondalup Wolves, and in doing so strengthening our identity, and our relationship with the suburb in which the majority live, play, train and operate.

Fast forward to NOW.

Our organisation is bold.

In the past 2-years, we have grown as an entity, as a Basketball ecosystem, by more than 50%.

If you consider the current economic climate, organisations are celebrating low single figure percentage growth – our organisation stands out from the pack – with an entirely compelling growth narrative.

The metrics are, for lack of any other appropriate phrase, mind-blowing.

We have nearly 4000 active Basketballers.

Our total business revenue guidance for 2017 will be substantive – we are a sustainable operation, and we are investing in our people, our future and quite evidently, our facility.

Our new development charter is evidence-based, and highly engineered to ensure that there are more basketballs, in more hands, than ever before.

Our brand and communications, especially our social and digital media, is industry leading.
The former gap in our league’s market – professional, disciplined and consistent fan engagement and content – has been filled by our club.

We are the blue-chip WA Basketball club.

Our commitment to developing our players is unashamedly relentless, and our new progams and products will continue to roll-out, and make us better.

We have the State’s best governed and most rapidly expanding junior domestic competition – we’ve welcomed a new club, and our volunteer committees are amazing.

Our senior competition is healthy - cradle-grave, basketball for all.

Our WABL program is on the upward trend, and we are recalibrating our philosophies to develop our people, educate & motivate, with a collective goal of sustained success.

WABL is a big and hungry beast, but we are learning how to tame it.

And of course, both our SBL programs are first-class. We continue to display League Leadership – be it though preparation, performance or recovery.

Our average SBL home crowd has doubled from 2014 to 2017.

Like any sports business, with our on-court success, comes off-court success. Our flagship SBL programs enable our club’s profile and revenue base to grow.

In our new stadium – we will comfortably seat x730 people.
With some premium standing areas, x800 patrons per game is our target.

I am discussing our trademarks with Ben and Craig, our outstanding Heads of Basketball – we want to be known by these behaviours and standards.

Whilst some programs come and go – the ultimate 1 and done approach - yet our sustained success is admired, and we are flattered that components of our programs are being imitated as our competitors attempt to uncover the hidden recipe that is Wolfpack Basketball.

We now unveil our state-of-the-art new facility, a home for everyone.

We mark 10-15 years of hard work from many people to improve our club, and I can tell you with great pride that this has been delivered.

We also unveil a new look – a dynamic new brand that will lead us into this, our new era, with a high degree of esteem, modernisation and flair.

The dream has been achieved;

But in reality, the journey has just begun.

GO WOLVES
