The Friday night Round 17 Women’s SBL action began at Belmont Oasis with the Lady Wolfpack scoring an important seven-point victory over the Redbacks.

The Wolves bounced back from their loss to the Lightning on Sunday to have now won five of their past six matches to improve to a 10-9 record to remain at least guaranteed of a top six finish, and potentially top four.

The Redbacks have now lost seven of the past eight games to slip to 7-10 and be only just clinging to a finals position.

Chelsea BELCHER top-scored for the Lady Wolfpack with 18 points and three rebounds on shooting 7-of-15 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range and 2-of-2 at the line.

Shani AMOS added 15 points, six assists, six steals and five rebounds for the Wolves while Klara WISCHER contributed 12 points and 10 boards, and Ellyce IRONMONGER nine points and 11 rebounds.

Emilee Harmon ended up with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Redbacks with Gabby Clayton adding 13 points, five boards and four assists, and Bianca Donovan nine points and four rebounds.

The Friday night Men's SNL action got underway with the third placed Wolfpack taking on the fourth placed Redbacks at Belmont Oasis.

It was an important win for the Wolves who steady in third position with a 16-6 record while the Redbacks slip to 12-9 having now lost three straight and four of their past seven to be clinging to fourth position. It’s no coincidence that has gone hand in hand with Shawn Redhage’s absence.

The Wolfpack got off to a fast start with 21 points to 12 in the opening quarter before the Redbacks hit back in the second term to be back within two by half-time. But the Wolves set up the win in the third term with 24 points to 13 to end up winning by 12.

Skipper Seb SALINAS ended up with 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Wolfpack on the back of 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 3-of-6 from deep.

Trian ILIADIS also had 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists with Ryan WRIGHT contributing 16 points and 11 boards, Ben IRONMONGER 14 points and six rebounds, and Rob HUNTINGTON nine points, 13 boards and three assists.

Marshall Nelson continued his tremendous form for the Redbacks with another 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Lee Roberts added 20 points, 13 rebounds and five assists for Perth and Ben Smith 16 points.

 

This weekend the Wolfpack Men contest the Geraldton Buccaneers in a Sunday (16/7) SBL fixture at JBS.
