2 from 4 as Wolves Respond to Adversity

Following two defeats against some pumped up Willetton Tigers sides at their home-base on Friday evening, the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro Joondalup City Wolves responded in the best possible fashion with both the Women's and Men's teams recording important victories against the Lakeside Lightning.

In the Saturday night Women's game, where the Wolves paid tribute to the many and loyal 'Women of the Wolves' supporters, the Lady Wolfpack rose to the occasion.

In contrast to one of the major challenges of the evening before, the Wolves topliners found avenues to the basket, with Amy KIDNER shooting a game high 19pts, including 7/10 from the line. Her season continues to impress, with her increasing scoring prowess being an incredible asset to the Wolves roster which features multiple offsensive options.

Shani AMOS, both Captain and engine room of this impressive Wolves group, was her usual industrious self, with 4 steals, 3 assists and 4 rebounds to accompany her 9pts. Her work-ethic in defense was exceptional.

In game 196 Sherelle KNIGHT played an important rebound support role to Ellyse IRONMONGER, who snatched a 'comprehensively game-high' 13 rebounds, along with 3 blocked shots and 11pts.

Congratulations is extended to Lady Wolves debutant (Friday night) Shanice SWAIN. As a fluent and dyanmic ball-handler, she provides valuable support to the likes of AMOS and Klara WISCHER.

The Lady Wolves maintained their 'top of the standings' status, with the hard fought victory taking their tally to 12-2.

In the Saturday night Men's game, the Wolves played a tight contest against a noticeably big Lakeside roster that includes one of the seasons' standout imports.

In an at times feisty game, with an enormous foul count, the Wolves were able to control their emotions and the scoreboard, utilising their depth to wear down their opponents from south of the City.

Big man, quickly becoming known as "Mr Reliable", Rob HUNTINGTON continued his fine offensive form of late, shooting 27pts, including 3 from the perimeter. His work-rate and composure under the basket against bigger opponents was a major asset for the Wolves who were without Kevin DAVIS for the weekend.

Greg HIRE continues to play himself into dangerous form for opposition sides, adding strength and controlled aggression to the Wolves already bulging roster of talented athletes. His 25pts, including an impressive 15/17 from the charity stripe, along with a massive 15 rebounds, were clear match-winning factors that swung the game the Wolves way.

The 'Mayor of Wanneroo' was at work in his chambers for all to see, showing the Wolfpack faithful what the Perth Wildcats value in him so highly.

Keeping with the theme of hardness at the ball, Jordan WELLSTEED played a great final few minutes in a hard-man cameo role, diving on the loose ball and ripping down some critical rebounds at crucial periods.

As a star of the future, this hard edge displayed in his game on Saturday will certainly do him favours in the eyes of any higher level scouts who elect to venture up to the Joondalup northern fortress for a look.

The Wolves have relinquished their 'top of the standing' status to the Cockburn Cougars, with their 14-3 placing the Wolves in 2nd place.

One can't help but feel that this change in standing is somewhat momentary, as the wounded wolf grows strength by feeding its hunger.

This weekend the Wolfpack play local rivals Stirling Senators at Warwick on Friday evening, and then the Men's team will again back-up, playing host to the Goldfields Giants at home on Saturday evening. Witness all the action of LIVE SBL Basketball.

Keep cheering for your WOLVES!

They VALUE your incredible support...
