NEWS: GRFC Men's Division - Round 3 Report

ROUND Three of the GRFC Men’s Division 1 saw Barwon and Deakin Ducks Gold separate themselves from the pack after both continuing their respective winning streaks.

Kicking off on Friday night, top of the ladder Deakin Gold stayed at Deakin University to face off against its co-tenants, Deakin Black. The fiercer Gold side had a fortunate 4-0 victory keeping their standards of the game very high. Deakin Gold went into half time with the score being 3-0 courtesy of goals to Shannon Kearns, Ipyana Killimbe and Jake Ball.

Fifteen minutes into the second half leading golden boot player Harry Woolley finished the final goal, putting him on 12 for the season. Harry currently has scored half of his teams goals for the season.

At Shell Road Reserve, Ocean Grove won a close 2-1 match between neighboring Drysdale side. Jack Pedler scored a brace for Surfside before half time to put confidence into the eyes of the Waves players seeking their first victory for the season. During the second half Daniel Hegarty finished a great consolation goal for Drysdale from outside the box into the bottom left corner to wrap up the game.

Close chasers of the top Deakin Gold side, Barwon Red won against visiting side Geelong Rangers on Friday night in an easy 2-0 affair. Sean Mahon scored both goals for Barwon to keep their flawless season going. Barwon Red is second on the ladder by a 13-goal difference gap, which they soon hope to close.

Also obtaining their first victory for the season, Breakwater Eagles snuck away with a 1-0 win over Geelong SC. Breakwater now sit equal with Geelong on the ladder in 6th and 7th position. Matthew Elsen scored his first goal for the season against the Geelong side to seal the win.

On Sunday at 3pm, Surf Coast was hosts to Barwon’s second side, Barwon Blue. The home side controlled the ball better during the game which showed in the 2-0 result. Surf Coasts duo goal scorers Marcus Jablonski and David Cattigan both got singles a piece that game.

The final 2-0 result was witnessed at Howard Glover Reserve where Deakin Green beat bottom of the ladder Elcho Park Cardinals. The Green Deakin side now sit 3rd on the ladder due to their undefeated season while on the other side of the pitch, Elcho Park sit in 14th position which they hope to get their first win in two weeks time against Drysdale, who are also seeking their first wi of the season.
