NEWS: Geelong’s 2018 Junior Country Championships squad coaches appointed
THE HEAD coaching positions for all the Geelong Boys’ and Girls’ junior representative squads for next year’s Victorian Country Championships have been finalised, with just one assistant role to be filled.
GOFC Coaching, which will once again manage and oversee the selection of the squads ranging from U11s right up to U16s, has appointed a wide mix of highly renowned and talented up and coming coaches to head the Geelong junior representative teams that will take part in the Championships on the Queen’s Birthday June long weekend in Shepparton
The first official meeting of the newly appointed coaches will take place at GMHBA Stadium’s Sports House on Monday December 11th, commencing at 7pm.
GOFC’s Pete Bradley is excited about the talented crop of local coaches appointed and is looking forward to the planning process which virtually started the moment the last Championships were wrapped up in Gippsland earlier this year
“At the upcoming meeting of coaches, we will go through feedback from 2017 and lay out the proposed 2018 program, and it will be chance for some of the new coaches to meet the other coaches.
“We will also try and confirm dates and venues for the trials in February so parents can plan for the year ahead," he added.
"It's great to see local coaches taking the next step from local league to representative tournament football. There are obviously some well known and highly accredited coaches on the list bringing a wealth of experience but it is also pleasing to see new young coaches putting their hand up.
“In addition to this, there are a number of extra female coaches this year which is credit to the Geelong Women's Taskforce. All assistant coaches will have at least the Grassroots coaching licence by the time the trials commence.
“We are encouraging the coaches to promote the program and their team and also recommend all players of all ages to register for the trials.
“The trials will be conducted by the coaches and hopefully some independent observers so we would also like to clarify that players from previous squads are not guaranteed positions or any siblings of the coaches etc,” concluded Bradley.
