South East Cougars lead the way in technical and respect points

South East Cougars are the Victorian Champions League zone to be awarded the most technical and respect points during the 2012 season, with North East Diamonds second and Ballarat based Southern Cross Strikers coming third.

Teams were awarded up to 20 technical and 20 respect points for their efforts during the season.

The technical points awarded to each team are the average of the technical scores provided by our 27 technical observers while respect points were the average score given to every team by our referees after each match.

South East Cougars Head Zone Coach Darren Tan said that he was pleased with the efforts of all of his teams throughout the season.

“We want to be a zone that fully embraces the National Curriculum and the coaches all did a great job in their delivery of it,” he said.

“I’d also like to thank the South East Cougars committee, who were very supportive all season.”

Tan, who is also a Victorian state coach, said that he was also impressed by the efforts of other zones in continuing to improve the technical ability of their players.

“I’ve watched almost all of the teams across the VCL this year and the individual players are definitely getting better, so we have a larger pool of players knocking on the door of the state teams,” he said.

“Most zones are embracing the Curriculum and there is more continuity and consistency in our delivery of talented player programs.”

He also stressed that an understanding of the national Curriculum is important for everyone involved in the game.

“The National Curriculum isn’t just for our next Socceroos and Matildas, it’s important for everyone to help improve the sport,” he said.

“It means you have a better standard of play at all levels and better behaviour on and off the pitch due to the respect points. Not everyone can be a national player, but the more people we have in the Victorian football community who understand and embrace the National Curriculum, the better it will be for everyone.”

The VCL season will officially wrap up on Saturday 22 December with the presentation day to be held prior to the Melbourne Victory W-League game at Wembley Park in Box Hill.
