Hydro E-3 Wraps Up an Undefeated Season

With two weeks remaining in the BECOL Season, the game between BNE Oilers(2 – 3) and Hydro E-3(6 – 0) really shook up the playoff situation in the Senior Division. Hydro E-3 started the game very strong, jumping to a 11 – 7 first quarter lead, behind 5 points from Shannon Guzman.  The lead was cut to three points at the half, 19 – 16, as BNE Oilers were demonstrating some resolve against the undefeated Hydro E-3.  The third quarter was the story of the game, as Hydro E-3 opened up a 10 point lead, 34 – 24 going into the final quarter of the game.  Shannon Guzman hit two three pointers in this quarter, while BNE Oilers were only able to muster 8 points.  Being the rematch of last year’s season, complemented by the playoff implications, the game got heated in the fourth quarter, as bragging rights were at stake.  Hydro had a 12 point lead in the third quarter, when the game got out of the reach of BNE Oilers.

In the fourth quarter, BNE Oilers made their final push, outscoring Hydro E-3 19 – 13, but they fell short by 4 points, losing 48 – 44.  Hydro E-3 was lead by Shannon Guzman who scored 13 points, hitting 3 of 8 from the three point line, while Kurt “Chengo” Burgess sank 9 points, while grabbing 19 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists.  Hydro E-3 out rebounded BNE Oilers by 10, 55 – 45.  In a losing effort, BNE Oilers was lead by Dorian “Cheezy” Jones with 18 points and 5 rebounds.  With the loss, BNE Oilers must win their last game and they need assistance from another team, in order to make the playoffs.
