Under hot Papamoa skies, 70 Touch teams from all over New Zealand packed the Gordan Spratt Reserve to participate in the 2013 Junior National Touch Championship. From humble beginnings with a handful of teams the tournament has now grown to the largest event on the Touch New Zealand calendar.

Last year's overall Champions Counties Manukau started well in the Under 15 Girls Grade, winning all five of their matches. North Harbour also finished the day with four wins and a draw and a very much in the hunt.
Pool A of the Under 15 Mixed Grade looks to be wide open with Hawkes Bay, Southland and Bay of Plenty all going three wins from three matches on Day 1. Those teams will meet each other today in what should produce some close-fought Touch. Pool B has been dominated by Te Tai Tokerau with Auckland also putting up a strong showing.
Kapiti Horowhenua and Central Force have got their noses in front in Pool A of the Under 15 Boys Grade. The Bay of Plenty team is out on its own in Pool B, winning all three of their matches. Auckland and Waikato are also looking strong, winning two and then drawing their match 7-7.
Auckland have started the strongest in the Under 17 Girls Grade, winning all five of their matches. North Harbour though are also undefeated and it could be a Grand Final preview today when the two teams meet.
The Under 17 Mixed Grade has 13 teams fighting it out over two Pools. Locked at the top of Pool A is Counties Manukau and Kapiti Horowhenua but with three matches to play there's still a chance for other provinces to stake a claim. Auckland continue their strong tournament by leading Pool B.
There's a four-way tie at the top of the Under 17 Boys ladder that has set up a tantalising Day 2. Counties Manukau, Waikato, Wellington and North Harbour are all on 14 points and will be looking to keep ahead of the pack going into the Finals.
