Born on the 16th April 1944 in Titikaveka on Rarotonga. Tiki attended Titikaveka Primary School as a student, throughout his life he has had an outstanding sporting career, which is detailed:
1953 Placed 3rd in the High Jump of the Interschool Athletics, held at the Muri Rugby Field
1956 The month of June moved from Avarua Primary School to Tereora College
1961 Left school at the end of the year and took up a job with the Cook Islands Police, and started in 1962. That year while at Tereora made it into the College 1st Fifteen Rugby Team, also made it into the College 1st Eleven Softball Team. During that same year set the senior boy’s record in the Triple Jump of 12.90m, which still stands today. Excelled in Athletics, Rugby, Softball and Tennis representing House 3.
1962 Represented Titikaveka Oire in the Kumete Sports and for a number of years in athletics competing in track events, 100m, 200m, 400m and field events High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump and Shot Put. While at the same time got into the Titikaveka 1st Fifteen Rugby Team. Also played Cricket and Tennis for Titikaveka Oire. Was a member of the unbeatable Police 7’s Rugby Team in a Business House Competition, for a couple of seasons.
1965 Represented the Rarotonga 1st Fifteen Rugby Team to play against Araura Enua at Arorangi celebrating the year the Cook Islands became Self Government
1966 Represented the Cook Islands at the South Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia. Participating in the men’s 100m and 200m, there were only three of us in the athletics team, June Taringa (Baudinet) and Kau Pupa Wichman, and of course the Netball Team who won the gold medal by defeating Fiji.
1969 Was a member of the Titikaveka Rugby Team who won both the Round and Knockout Competition for the first time.
1970 Continued playing Rugby, Cricket, Tennis and participated in the annual Kumete Sports event
1976 While on study leave in New Zealand, was selected in the Auckland Cook Islands 1st Fifteen to play against the touring Cook Islands National Team from Rarotonga
1981 Played and Captained the Rarotonga 1st Fifteen Rugby Team who played against the touring Italian National Rugby Team coached by French great Pierre Villeprieux, and defeated them with a score of 15 – 9
1983 Represented the Cook Islands at the South Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, Captained the team to fourth placing.
1985 Represented the Cook Islands in Rugby at the South Pacific Mini Games held in the Cook Islands, where we won gold, was also the Cook Islands Team Flag-bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the 1985 South Pacific Mini Games
2000-2008 Was elected as President of Cook Islands Sports & National Olympic Committee, I have attended two Olympics during my time as President.
