Spoilers win FBL title, sweeps series

Defending champion FR Spoilers retained its title as they won over Western Union, 81-79 Sunday in Game Two of their best of three series for the 2013 season of the Filipino Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

The Spoilers showed composure as they took a 22-21 lead and then closed the first half with a 43-39 lead. Despite logging in the third canto, the Spoilers maintained their killer instinct as they went all the way to take the game and sweep the series at 2-0.

Mark Pagayanan led the onslaught for the Spoilers with 22 as teammates Coco Gonzales tallied 15 while Michael Bombita and Aries Echanova finished the game with identical 14 markers, respectively.

On the other hand, Dennis Castro topscored for Western Union with 19 as Ronald Magcalas had 16 on the losing end.

Winners were awarded immediately after the game supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF).

This year’s FBL League is supported by ATT Bar and Restaurant, HE Automotive, Palasia Hotel, Palau Royal Resort, Surangel and Sons Company, FR Construction, Engrs. Jun dela Cruz, Bobby Pineda, and Benjamin Asuncion, Budget Mart II, Kabayan Restaurant and Aqua Water.

Meanwhile, the 2014 season of the FBL is set to open by October 6 at the Palau National gym. The league will be under The Filipino Community in Palau (TFCP) and will have the Regular and Masters divisions.
