Surangel and Sons halts Spoilers’ winning run
Surangel and Sons needed and extra period to humble down a highly financed FR Spoilers, 123-122, Sunday in the ongoing 2012 season of the Filipino Basketball League at the Palau National gym.
Trailing 81-74, Surangel and Sons then outscored the defending champions in the final canto with a 34-15 output that end the regulation period with the score tied at 108-all. In the overtime period, Surangel and Sons survived a 15-14 run that gave them the game.
High flying Arnold Undecimo paced Surangel and Sons with 46 points while Bong Gayongorsa chipped in 31 markers as they now tie the Ilocandia Bulls in the team standings with identical 6-4 win-loss records. Michael Bombita topscored for the Spoilers with 33 as Coco Gonzales added 22 as they suffered their first setback in the tournament to sport a 9-1 card.
On the other hand, team Choppers got back into the winning circle as they beat a hard fighting Rams/Guardians, 70-64. Bon-Bon Pramo led the scoring clutches for the Choppers with 20 baskets as they now tie the MJ Rangers with identical 5-4 while Leo Castro led Rams/Guardians with 19 as they continue to remain at the cellar with a 0-10.
In other games, MJ Rangers won over Hanpa Cardinals, 81-69; and D’Originals defeated FR Spoilers, 93-79 in the Master’s League. By Peter Erick L. Magbanua (Island Times News)
