Perth SC moved to second in the NPLWA – Men’s competition following a 2-1 over Inglewood United on a day when the hosts celebrated their 70th anniversary.

The result ended Inglewood's winning streak, which stood at seven matches, and they remain two points from a top four finals spot. Perth, meanwhile, reduced Floreat's lead to seven at the summit of the division with the top two meeting next Saturday.

The game was given the all-clear to go ahead despite the news this morning of a community Covid case. However, the crowd capacity was limited to 150 and Inglewood announced pre-game that their VIP function was being postponed.

The game began with both sides wearing heritage strips. Perth’s Calvin Whitney's early free-kick was saved by Josiah Godfrey, while at the other end the division's leading scorer Steve Sokol couldn't quite turn home from close range.

Godfrey, standing in for injured Alex Dunn, denied Michael Domfeh on 23 minutes, b. But he was beaten five minutes later as Whitney found the net in spectacular fashion, netting from just inside Inglewood's half to open the scoring with a goal of the season contender.

Inglewood had the first chance of the second half when Ryan Montgomery saved from Robert Petkov, but the forward would not be denied a second time as he latched onto Thiak Kuel's cross to make it 1-1.

But Perth restored their advantage 20 minutes from time with what proved to be the winning goal, as Whitney this time provided the assist for Domfeh to side foot in his sixth of the campaign.

Mark Barnett headed Inglewood's best chance of a leveler over as the visitors held on in the pouring rain for a first win in four games.

The other Round 13 matches were played on Saturday. Read the round-up of those games here.
