Murdoch University Melville will head into Round Six top of the NPLWA Women's table after defeating Northern Redbacks 2-1 at Kingsway Reserve on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, red-hot strike duo Katarina Jukic and Ellie La Monte put MUM FC 2-0 up, which ensured Georgia Cawley’s long-range strike was too little, too late for Redbacks.

It was an open start to the match with both sides finding space and creating chances and Larissa Walsh and Jukic both went close to opening the scoring.

MUM FC came out determined after the break and in the 57th minute they took the lead. Player of the match Jukic got the ball on the edge of the box, took a touch and unleashed a strike into the top corner for her eighth goal of the season.

And it was two after 77 minutes when a great cross from Stacey Learmont was headed home by La Monte, who has now scored six.

Redbacks momentarily threatened a late comeback when Cawley caught MUM FC keeper Danelle Cornish slightly off her line and sneaked the ball in just under the crossbar.

But ultimately time was Redbacks' enemy and it was Murdoch University Melville who walked away with a fourth successive win and a two-point lead at the top.

Judy Connolly's goal early in the second half maintained Hyundai NTC's unbeaten start to the season as they drew 1-1 against Balcatta.

The visitors went ahead on the half-hour when Angelique Alberts got in front of NTC keeper Miranda Templeman and put the ball into the net.

It was left to Connolly to keep NTC's record intact. Not for the first time this season she was in the right place at the right time, meeting Abbey Green's cross with a header which Balcatta keeper Gabby Dal Busco got a hand to but could only help into the goal.

Substitute Liana Cook came up trumps with a last-minute equaliser as Perth SC went top of the table for 24 hours following their 2-2 draw at Curtin University on Saturday.

Cook's goal came after she worked space on the right-hand side of the box. It looked like she was intending a cross for two players in the centre, however the ball sailed over Curtin keeper Stacey Cavill and into the net.

It was tough luck on Curtin, who had gone in front on 18 minutes in spectacular fashion when Penelope Clayton curled a first-time effort over Beck Bennett from outside the area.

As against Murdoch University Melville in Round Three, Perth SC went up the other end and equalised straight away. Zoee Spadano took the ball down well before steadying herself and firing past Cavill.

Curtin have yet to win in the league this season but they do show fight. That was evident when they went back in front five minutes before half-time through Ali Bennett's left-footed finish.
