University challenge comes to the Women’s NPL on Friday when Murdoch and Curtin get Round Four under way.

Murdoch have started the new term the brighter and sit top of the table on goal difference, recovering from an opening game loss to Balcatta with two wins.

The latest success came at Perth SC last Saturday, with Ellie La Monte’s first-half double setting up a 3-2 victory.

The winner came from Katarina Jukic which put the dual Gold Medal winner top of the scoring charts with five goals. Jukic has netted in all three games.

Curtin were just a few minutes from beginning their campaign with a surprise victory over Hyundai NTC. The 2-2 draw still gave Curtin a point but since then they have suffered successive losses.

With 10 goals conceded in three matches, Curtin will have to be on their toes to deal with the attacking threat of Jukic, La Monte and Sadie Lawrence, who have 11 goals between them.

The match at Murdoch University kicks off at 7.30pm.

The other three games are on Sunday.

At Grindleford Reserve it’s third-v-second when Balcatta take on Northern Redbacks.

Redbacks had an important win over Fremantle City last week, while Balcatta’s second-half display was too much for Curtin.

Fremantle haven’t been getting the results some of their football might have merited. This weekend they are at home to NTC, the only team who are still unbeaten thanks to Leticia McKenna’s stoppage-time penalty against Subiaco.

Bottom club Subiaco are at Perth SC, who lost top spot following their loss to MUM FC last Saturday.
