Men's NPL: Sorrento start season in style

Cameron Teece produced the individual performance of the NPL WA's opening round with a four-goal burst in Sorrento’s 6-1 thrashing of Rockingham City.
After Daniel Faichney’s low drive deflected in off Luke Collins to put the Gulls in front, Teece doubled the lead with a free-kick from the corner of the box.
He did the same again early in the second half to make it 3-0, then linked with Faichney to set up Ollie Annis for Sorrento’s fourth.
Teece completed his hat-trick seven minutes from time after being slipped in by Alex Morgan. Rockingham’s mood lifted slightly when substitute Sam Foster pulled one back, but within a minute Teece had taken advantage of more poor defending to bag his fourth and Sorrento’s sixth.
Rockingham didn't help themselves, with skipper Lydon Hodgkiss and Michael Farmer both sent off for two yellow cards in the second half.
ECU Joondalup’s strong recruiting paid early dividends as they downed Cockburn City 2-0.
Danny Hodgson opened the scoring with a penalty, which was awarded after the Jacks striker went down under a challenge from Breckan Baker.
Cockburn’s chances dipped further before the break when Ash Rosindale was sent off for a challenge on Callum Timmins.
City stayed in the game until ECU finally got their second in stoppage time through Andrew Higgins’ left-footed effort.
Goals from Bala Noah Shamaki, Nicholas Ambrogio and Liam Murray gave Floreat Athena a 3-1 win over Armadale.
Shamaki caught out veteran goalkeeper Cyril Sharrock with a low shot from outside the area to give Athena a half-time lead.
Armadale were on terms early in the second half in bizarre fashion when Floreat keeper Jason Saldaris, under no pressure, dropped a corner into his own goal.
Fortunately for the usually dependable stopper, his team-mates were able to still take the win. Ambrogio beat Sharrock to a long pass and steered the ball into the unguarded goal, then in stoppage time Murray danced through the Armadale defence for the third.
Balcatta and Perth Glory drew 1-1 at Grindleford Reserve. Adam Zimarino put Balcatta in front in the first half. The striker ran between two Glory defenders, rounded outrushing keeper Sam Reilly and then kept his composure to finish.
But Glory levelled just before the hour when Bryce Bafford’s shot deflected off Adam Tong and looped into the net.
Another keeper caught in no man’s land was Inglewood’s Alex Dunn, who was left stranded as Ndumba Makeche put Gwelup Croatia 1-0 up on 64 minutes. But Inglewood have plenty of resilience and Brendan Italiano cracked home an equaliser on 76 minutes.
Gwelup’s Kian Mcguigan was sent off in injury time for a foul on Brodie Langan.
On Friday night Bayswater City and Perth SC drew 1-1 at Frank Drago Reserve. Jayden Gorman gave Perth a first-half advantage and they held it until the final minute when Luke Salmon levelled for Bayswater with a free-kick past Ryan Montgomery.
