Season Preview: Inglewood United

Football West News

Inglewood United will be hoping it's a case of third time lucky after letting the NPLWA title slip in the final games for the past two seasons.

Head Coach Andy Keogh has been a busy man during his A-League commitments with Perth Glory, but he was happy with the way his squad played last season and will be looking for an improvement in 2018.

“I was very happy with a lot of our play last year but there is always room for improvement,” Keogh said.

“The players returned hungry for success and the disappointment of the final stages of last year will only feed that.

“The pre-season has been excellent, the intensity from the boys has been terrific and a lot of hard yards have been done in preparation for round one of the new league season. Our expectations are straight forward - to go one better than we did last year.”

Keogh has added some quality to his squad this season, signing Steve Burton (Bayswater City), Ellis Healing (Cefn Druids, Wales), Jamie Murphy (Bayswater City), Scott Robertson (Broadmeadow Magic, New South Wales) and Miki Vujacic (Stirling Lions).

Keogh said he has been impressed with defender Scott Robertson and believes he will be a good inclusion for them.

“Expect a big season from Scott - he’s only 20 but has also shown a maturity well beyond that,” Keogh explained.

“Scott spent four years in Perth Glory’s development system and joins us following a successful season at Northern New South Wales club Broadmeadow Magic.”

Keogh has appointed a new Captain for the club this season and believes ECU Joondalup will be the team to beat in 2018. “I feel they will be one to watch, with excellent players like Daryl Nicol and Gordon Smith in their ranks, not to mention a great manger in Dale McCulloch,” he said.

“We have appointed Kenny Keogh as our Captain for the new season. He is in his fourth season with the club and he is a player who gives everything he has. He leads by example through his attitude and approach to the game and I’m sure he bleeds ‘blue and gold’ blood.”

Inglewood United will open their NPLWA season when they entertain Stirling Lions at the Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium on Friday, February 23 – kick off 7pm.
