Floreat Athena striker Ludo Boi is expecting a goal fest on Saturday when his side takes on Perth SC in the NPLWA Night Series semi-final at Dalmatinac Park.

The teams scored 19 goals between them in the first two rounds of the competition, which Boi says will make for an exciting game.

“Perth will not be an easy task,” he said. “We both seem to be scoring and playing well so we will be looking to test ourselves against a well organised and fit opposition.

“We know what they can do and I’m sure they’ve done their homework on us so we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Six-time Night Series champions Athena beat Inglewood United 4-1 in the first round, before their 5-1 win against Forrestfield United in the quarter-finals.

Perth, who have won the Night Series 19 times, had their scoring boots on in the first round of the competition to beat Perth Glory 6-0 and in the quarter-finals they held their nerve to beat Sorrento 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out.

Striker Frank Furfaro is expecting a challenging game.

“Floreat have definitely been in form to start the Night Series with two big wins,” he said.

“But the team is confident and determined to go all the way this year so we will continue to play our game and fight for the win.”

In the earlier game, Subiaco will take on Cockburn City, with the Lions eyeing their first appearance in the final of the pre-season competition.

Ian McMurray’s side edged out Balcatta in the first round before beating Joondalup United in the quarter-finals through a Carlin Feely brace and a goal from Steve Purton.

Purton, who is in his second season at the club, said the team was improving with every game but will be challenged on the weekend.

“Cockburn will be another hard test for us,” he said.

“They have had two solid wins and scored a lot of goals. We have a great mix of experienced and young players so we will train hard this week and set up with a game plan.”

The Cockerels reached the semi-finals with a win against ECU Joondalup in the first round, before a brace from new signing Luccas Mello and another from Daniel Robinson gave them a 3-1 win against Stirling Lions in the quarter finals.

Former Perth Glory midfielder Cameron Edwards is expecting strong competition from the Lions.

“Ian’s got them well-drilled and we’ll need to be at our best to get the result,” he said. “We look forward to playing at home and taking another positive step forward as a club.”
