Subiaco claim three points with win over Glory

Report by Ryan Borrett

Subiaco struck late on to claim a 2-1 win over Perth Glory as they continued their much improved PS4 NPL WA season.

It was a closely fought encounter but Glory had the better of the chances before David Perich struck with 11 minutes to go.

Subiaco player coach Ian McMurray enjoyed the fight his team showed and was pleased to get a reward for their effort.

“It was a scrappy game but we came here and got the job done today,” he said.

“The last couple of weeks we’ve dropped our game a little bit so it’s good to change that.

“It wasn’t pretty but I’m glad we got the win.”

The visitors went ahead early in the first half as McMurray pounced on some poor defending to tuck his shot into the bottom corner.

Glory’s best chance of the opening half came on 16 minutes when Michael Domfeh shot wide from Daniel Stynes’ cutback.

They did find a leveller early in the second half as Stynes cut in from the left and drove a low shot into the bottom corner.

The home side piled on the pressure but were unable to find a breakthrough.

Stynes had another great chance with 15 minutes to play, but Ryan Montgomery brilliantly saved from close-range and it proved important moments later when Subiaco took the lead.

McMurray chested down a high ball into the box and Perich lashed home on the half volley to give Subiaco maximum points.

Perth Glory coach John Gibson was disappointed that his side were unable to profit on multiple chances.

“We didn’t take our opportunities and we had a lot of chances to win the game,” he said.

“We weren’t ruthless in front of goal. The first goal was early, conceded cheaply and the second was against the run of play so that hurt us.”
