Subiaco have made it two wins in a row in the PS4 NPLWA with a 3-0 victory over Balcatta at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday.

Both sides enjoyed even possession early in the first half with a third minute volley from Subiaco’s Mike Lawson saved by Balcatta’s young goalkeeper Domenico Savoldelli.

On five minutes, Subiaco goalkeeper Ryan Montgomery pulled-off two consecutive saves from close range to deny Balcatta’s Nathan Scully and in-form goal scorer Lucas Mello.

Balcatta set up play through defender Justin Onek and midfielder Feisal Zaw leading to Balcatta’s best chance of the first half.

Zaw’s long range effort on 20 minutes was easy pickings for Montgomery.

Subiaco opened the scoring through David Perich in the 24th minute with a well-timed finish leaving goalkeeper Savoldelli helpless.

The goal proved to be the spark for the 11th placed side, who held possession while creating numerous chances for the remainder of the half.

Midfielders Mike Lawson and David Perich outworked their opposition midfielders, forcing turnovers and creating opportunities for Subiaco’s forwards.

Subiaco coach Ian McMurray said this had been a focus of the team over the past weeks.

"The last couple of weeks we’ve been working on that (midfield pressure),” he said.

“I thought the whole team worked well to put pressure on Balcatta when they had the ball and we won it in some good areas.”

Subiaco struck again early in the second half with a well-taken free kick from Mike Lawson.

An assist from midfielder David Perich set up a goal from substitute Henock Butshire and secured the points for Subiaco.

A notably happy coach Ian McMurray is looking forward to Subiaco’s next challenge at home against Floreat Athena.

“Floreat are a top side so we just have to keep doing as we’re doing,” he said.

“We’re getting better every week, so we’ll be ready to go.”
